Places to eat in Atlanta?
I am going to the 200th episode live show of Good Eats at the end of this month in Atlanta. I have been down there many times but have never found a place to enjoy some serious eats. There is no food type that don't like. I I like all kinds of food. My only request is a place that cares about the food and the experience that they are creating foe their customers. Any ideas?

One of my favorite restaurants is Pura Vida in the Poncy-Highlands area. They serve Latin American tapas. I have never had a bad meal there. The chef is actually a contestant in this seasons Top Chef.
I also have gone to Shauns a number of times and have always had a great meal!
Hope this helps!

You have to check out The Varsity. It's an Atlanta tradition. I'll confess that I once was in Atlanta for the weekend and ate at The Varsity twice; its that good.

I'll second Pura Vida and Shaun's - both are great. If you're there on a Tuesday night, stop by Watershed in Decatur for their fried chicken special. For breakfast, try the Flying Biscuit.

One place that's really cool is Seasons 52, in buckhead plaza...it's all local, seasonal ingredients, and every plate is under 475 calories...you'd think this would mean very small portions and nasty "health" food, but the portions are actually nicely sized, and the food is excellent. they have a very nice wine list, but their beer and liquors are a little lacking.

I say head to the Vortex in midtown for awesome apps and burgers...they also have yummy sides instead of just plain old fries, like sweet potato fries, plantains and fried zucchini. They have the famous "cardiac burger" there that is an experience in and of itself.
For amazing Greek food I would head to Kyma in Buckhead. I ate there recently and had the grilled octopus. It was delicious, as was the galactabourico (a phyllo pastry filled with custard).

Are you looking to eat in Atlanta or near the show? Because the show is actually in Cobb, which is slightly north of Atlanta - certainly easy distance to travel but wasn't sure if you were looking near venue or not.
If looking near show:
Great Japanese: http://www.yakitorirestaurant.com/
Tasty China (most authentic Chinese in state)

C&S Oyster bar: http://www.candsoysterbar.com/
Self-explanatory
In Atlanta, city proper:
Bacchanalia: http://www.starprovisions.com/
(you didn't mention if price was an issue...)
Holeman & Finch: http://holeman-finch.com/
very neat menu focus on local seasonal ingredients

Awsome! I will try to hit them all. We are making a weekend of it. Staying at a bed and breakfast Friday and Saturday night coming home late Sunday. Should be able to hit at least 5-6 of them.

Recently had a delicious lunch at Portofino in Buckhead. Very relaxed, casual atmosphere, but delicious Italian-inspired, seasonal dishes.
Murphy's is also a great classic place in the Virginia Highlands place, especially for brunch, but expect a wait (same for Flying Biscuit if you decide to go there, which I'd also recommend).
Have fun at the Good Eats show - it sounds like a great time!

I second JCT Kitchen and Bacchanalia. For lunch, try Star Provisions, which is in the same building and run by the folks from Bacchanalia... the best shrimp poboy around. I also like Dogwood, near downtown. If you are looking for a good brunch, I love The Shed at Glenwood.
