Mascarpone...?

Alright, bit of an odd question. Does anyone know, where in the grocery store, where Mascarpone would be? I've looked up and down at all three grocery stores in my area and cannot, for the life of me, find it. I'm wondering if stores around here simply don't sell it; or if I'm just dumb and overlooking it. (And yes, I did ask for help, but at one store I just got a strange look and was told hesitantly "Um...maybe...the dairy section...?" and the second I was thoroughly ignored by the girl behind the counter. She was too busy discussing her schedule with her co-worker.)

Alternatively, does anyone know any companies that sell it online? Thanks!

Around here, I've found it near the sour cream/milk section, near the yogurt section, and in the gourmet/imported cheese section. Which, in the stores I'm thinking of, are not close to each other. Or near the cream cheese, which is also not near the other cheeses, but is usually near the eggs and butter, for no good reason.

At my Whole Foods it's by the hummus/dips section not in the cheese section. At my normal grocery store it's in the specialty cheese bin with the rest of the soft cheeses.

At my Trader Joe's it is near the sour cream, crème fraîche & yogurt.

I always see it in the Italian part of the cheese section at the front(deli) part of the store, as opposed the other cheese section in the dairy case at the back of the store. I still can't figure out why grocery stores need two cheese sections.

yeah definitely different markets but it in different places - but milk, yogurt, cheese, or general refrigerator sections are were i usually find it. most often it is by the milk/sour cream and not cheese.

in my area it's what @SqueezeBottle says...
The fancy cheese section where they also have olive bar and cured meats. That section is separate from regular (like Kraft) cheese section.

Look by the specialty cheeses. Or ask someone who works there. That's what I do. Saves time and energy.

It's pretty consistent around here--in Chicago and my hometown in mid-Wisconsin. Like SqueezeBottle and hmw0029, I always see it in the second cheese counter (where the edam would be, not where the shreds and singles are). It's weird that I've never seen it near the cream cheese, since that's the closest thing to mascarpone, as far as I can tell.

Usually the containers mascarpone comes in are low plastic dishes, like a potato-chip-dip would come in, or those Rondele cheese spreads (although the latter may be a regional thing around here that may not help in recognition).

igourmet.com has it.

My store has it in the deli.

I've seen it in two places: in the dairy section, near the cream cheese, sour cream, etc and in the specialty foods section where they put the more expensive cheeses like brie, etc

I've seen it both in the refrigerator case near the cream cheese and also in the imported cheese section. If they don't have it at the local conventional grocery story, Whole Foods market carries it and I'm pretty sure they have those in Boston.

Thanks, guys! I think I'll just scrap the regular grocery stores and take the ride to Whole Foods or Trader Joes....of course, this might mean I have to take out a second mortgage, since I cannot buy "just one thing" when I go in to either of those stores....

My local has it in the "frequently mispronounced" aisle. It's across from the chipotle peppers in adobo, near the paella pans and just below the espresso beans. If you see the quinoa or the freezer case of sherbet, you've gone too far.

...way too far.

@albee - I've gotten it at Whole Foods (where it's a normal product) for less than my normal supermarket (where it's a specialty product).
