Not sure where in the area you're living, but in south Minneapolis, there are two awesome donut shops--Mel-O-Glaze on 28th Ave and Minnehaha Pkwy has my favorite glazed donuts. A Baker's Wife has good cake donuts, but their lemon bars are out of this world!
Try chowhound.com for more recs around the area.

Definitely Mel-O-Glaze! That is the best one that i have found. If you need a quick fix, Byerly's and Lund's grocery stores have decent ones, though they go quickly.

There is a place on Central Avenue in Columbia Heights that resembles a former Dunkin Donuts (which used to be in Minnesota, but for some reason the franchise left the state). I forgot what it is called, but it is not far south of 694.

FYI: Dunkin Donuts is also opening up roughly 20 stores in the Twin Cities over the next year. :)
