Black Cow?

I am trying to determine what exactly a Black Cow is. I think it's a like a root beer float, which I thought was a Brown Cow, so I wanted to know if there is anything that makes a BLACK Cow special.

Maybe it's the additionof a shot of chocolate sauce?

they are the same thing, just called different names in different places.

I alway thought a Black Cow was made with Coke and vanilla ice cream. A Brown Cow is a root beer float.

As a bartender I knew:
Brown Cow = Kaluah and Milk
Black Cow = Kaluah and Cola

Non-liquor version I believe is a Cola (not rootbeer) float.
I may be wrong tho.

We used to call vallilla ice cream floating in root beer a Black Cow. That was back in the 1950s. The only time I used the term "brown cow" was when I put "how now" before it.

I don't understand why you have to get all racial. But I think its a large black woman.

A black cow in my youth was a root beer float. I'm with Savta on the brown cow - only with "how now"

I've never thought about why, but I suppose when you add ice cream to the nearly black root beer it looks like a large white spot on a black cow. Think Ben and Jerry's.

@happyeats: thank you for making my morning :) LOL

happyeats: Not to call the kettle -er- the cow black, and I don't want to reflect negatively on any one's race or ethnicity, but if you're going there, I guess I'd have to be thought of as the "Jewish cow" (I gotta lose some weight!)

Yup worked at a soda fountain for years -brown cow- rootbeer float black cow- coke float -blk and white milkshake is a chocolate milkshake made with vanilla ice cream and choc. syrup thie list goes on and on ;)
