what's up with the integrated pop-ups?

has anyone else noticed that there are now blue words within comments?
and that if you scroll over them an ad pops up? this is really putting me off...

From what you've described, these are not ads being served by Serious Eats. Are you only seeing this on Serious Eats?

not sure.
for instance, the words: "over them" and "pops" in my question above are dark blue & a little green box comes up with the name: clicksor or clickscr in the corner of it, theen there's an ad within the body of the box.
is this only happening to me?

damn. it seems that it's apart of my browser or something...every website i go to has the same thing happen. holy irritation, batman.

@gastronomeg: Sorry to hear that something got into your browser. At the same time, I'm relieved that it wasn't some errant ad coding that somehow hijacked the comments on SE. Thanks for the follow-up here.

My dyslexic quick-scanning affliction read "integrated pop-tarts" and I got all excited for a second.

I don't see it. The words "over them" and "pops" in your post are black just like the rest of the words.

@Adam Kuban - there is still a talking Kraft banner ad at the top of the page that has been up for MONTHS, and is very annoying. I know you mentioned previously that you don't approve of talking ads, but this one is still going strong. It may get past your radar because it is intermittent, but believe me, it is there.

Cheers,

~ Paula

@ Paula...is that why i keep hearing some lady talk about cutting strawberries??? I heard that last night but couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

@Paula & @Greenbean... that talking Kraft banner is REALLY annoying; I can't see how to turn it off, other than just shutting my laptop's sound off for a minute or so. I've found that lots of recipes show those pop-up ads for specific food products. Usually, if I just move my cursor away they disappear.

@duncan1205 ... If you use Firefox and have an ad blocker/script blocker installed, you won't see these ads or others.

The annoying thing about the strawberry ad is that it plays if you mouse over it, after a slight delay. So if that's on top when I go to change tabs, the sound starts playing after I've gone to the other tab.

Reloading the page or clicking on a different SE tab or topic kills the sound, so it's not that bad if I'm still at SE and it starts playing. But having it start talking while I'm reading email is annoying, because then I need to go back to SE to shut it up.

I think you're talking about hyperlinks that lead to other websites? I've seen this in Yahoo news articles, but not on this site.

RE Kraft Strawberry ad: I've put in a request with our ad team to have this creative removed. Will update you all when I have confirmation that it's gone. Sorry for the annoyance!

@Alaina, if they could change the strawberry ad so you had to click to activate it, that would be fine. Talking rollover ads at the top are just too easy to activate while switching to a different tab.

Thanks Alaina, the autoplay sound on that banner ad is really annoying and makes it hard for me to browse the site at work :)

Thanks, Alaina!
