Toronto dining requests
I'm going to Toronto (with a coworker) early August. We will be there for 4 nights and will be staying at the Sheraton Centre Toronto. We won't have a car, but are willing to cab it or take some other form of public transportation. I, being the foodie, am in charge of our dinner plans. Yippee! Our food spending per day is around $100 per person. I usually do 2 meals a day so I can save money for dinner. What do you recommend?
Thanks for the information!

Two minutes' walk west from your hotel on Queen Street is Nota Bene, which is delicious and a step down pricewise from its peers in quality. Still not cheap but worth it. Do you have food preferences?

I was going to suggest Nota Bene as well. Public transportation will be easy from where you're staying. There's a streetcar outside and the streetcar is between both subway lines that run north south. (1-2 blocks each way).
Also check out Pangea at 1221 Bay Street at Bloor. Just a subway ride north on either subway line to Bloor station and a short walk. You could also take a second subway (east west) because the restaurant is across the road from Bay subway station, but the walk is short and the directions, when typed out, look unnecessarily convoluted.
What type of food do you like? I can suggest more based on that.

best meal i had there was at north 44. A little ways to walk from the subway but sooo worth it. (and a little pricer but if you can...go!) I can still taste the asparagus and pea risotto! It was amazing!
Also went to susur once and that was something I won't ever forget!
Canoe for lunch is pretty reasonable and you get a great view of the city.
Maybe check out the st. lawrence market? they may have something fresh you can pick up for lunch for cheaper? Never been but I've seen the kiosk roster and it looks great with cheesemongers and bakeries.

I like all types of food. I live in Northern NJ and have had the opportunity to partake of many types of ethnic cuisine. We will get in to town on August 2 and I am heading home on August 6. On August 6 I can do a nice lunch before I leave Toronto. I heard about Lai Wah Heen and thought I might try it for dim sum lunch on that last day - even though I will be by myself by then.
I see that Nota Bene has gotten two recommendations. It is on my must do list. I've heard about Canoe -- but I think it is outside of my price range.
My coworker won't do anything too funky so Black Hoof is out. Please send suggestions my way. Thanks!

You'll be blocks from Queen Street West, which has many dining options. It might be easier for you to just leave your hotel and walk. If you want a restaurant with a view but that's out of your price range for meals, check out Canoe or Panorama for drinks. I've never been to Canoe but went to Panorama once and had a couple of outstanding martinis. Both have excellent views of the city.
It's also worth checking out ethnic neighbourhoods such as Chinatown and Little Italy (there's actually two, but the one on College Street is more mainstream). There's also the Korean neighbourhood, two Indian neighbourhoods, Eastern European neighbourhoods and more.
BlogTO might help you in your research.
