These Dos Equis Commercials
I've seen a couple Dos Equis commercials- "The Most Interesting Man in the World".. and - I don't often say this about commercials - I think they're hilarious.
An owl lands on the guy's arm, in front of his living room fireplace, and he raises an eyebrow towards the camera.
"He can speak French... in Russian."
"He once had an awkward conversation... just to see what it feels like."
And at the end he says, "I don't always drink beer. But when I do, I prefer Dos Equis."
These commercials deserve some serious props. I hope some other folks have seen these, and agree with me. It's one of the few commercials I've seen that actually makes me want buy the product.

I believe its "He once had an akward moment, just to see what it feels like"
And yes they're awesome!

I love that commercial, one of the few that I like.

to me, the character should be drinking prune juice instead of dos equis....
sorry, though i have to agree that it is a memorable commercial in that it so far fetched.... i think they could have casted it a little differently. the character has absolutely no sex appeal (IMHO). i can't see 20-40 year old males relating to abuello (grandfather) dos equis. and i don't think women in the same age bracket are dying to be seen with him either....
but i'm glad you all like it, i always watch it when it's on, so it must be doing something subliminal......

i actually think he's fairly handsome, but it's his dry delivery that seals it for me-it's pretty pitch perfect. i generally hate commercials, like pjracz10, but those amuse me.

God I love that commercial. It kind of reminds me of the early James Bond movies. So wry.

I, as a rule, detest commercials, but I honestly can't help laughing each time I see one of these. I agree that the actor has not sexual appeal, and I don't drink Dos Equis, but this company has a dynamo marketing team.
"He's been known to cure narcolepsy by walking into a room."
HA!

My favorite beer commercials were the Real Men of Genius commercials. When they came on the radio, I'd stop DEAD and listen. My favorite Mr. Taco Salad Inventor. I think they tried to migrate these commercials to TV but for some reason it didn't fly. The guy singing looks blind but I'm not sure if he actually is blind.

For the "Most interesting man in the world" he likes one of the most uninteresting beers in the world.

I don't even drink beer but I love commercials. I just recently caught the Dos Equis and chuckled quite a bit. I agree with chiff that Mr. Taco Salad Inventor is my favorite by far in terms of beer commercials. (Is your taco salad healthy? Of course it is! It's a salad, isn't it?) They have websites dedicated to play all of those commercials, back to when they were the "real Amercian hero" kind.

I love these comercials... I do think they missed on the tagline, though.
"Stay Thirsty, My Friend," sends the wrong message. (Don't drink this beer?)
"Quench your Thirst, My Friend," would make more sense, I think.

I think those commercials are great. They somehow manage to create a branding message without being annoying, probably because they are tongue in cheek and amusingly over the top.
I disagree about making the guy younger and more attractive, though. I think that would make them seem more like generic pretty people drink our beer ads. Having him be grizzled and accomplished-looking works much better, for me, probably because it's distinctive.
