Pre-theatre dining with a time constraint (Midtown West)

I have a friend coming in to see me this weekend. We are planning on getting Student Rush tickets for The 39 Steps. Unfortunately, this means we are strapped for time for dinner.
We pick up the tickets at 6pm and the show starts at 8pm.
The theater is on 44th between Broadway and 8th.

We can't walk too far out of that area. I'm thinking going west might be the best idea... to get good food at a place that wont be swamped.

Where can we eat that would be fast enough to fit that time frame? Any suggestions? If it doesnt work out, we're ok with just grabbing street food. :]

i like pigalle at 48th and 8th. they are huge, which means you can always get a seat, the waiters are totally happy to accomodate pretheater diners, and they can get you in and out quick. the food is pretty solid and dependable.

most of the restaurants in the area have a pre-theatre menu and understand the time constraints involved. i like vice versa restaurant on 51st street. i went there once before a show - told them we had 1 hour and they were happy to accomodate. straight-forward italian food in a comfortable setting. i think they have a nice outdoor seating space as well.

How about Ollie's on 42nd? Yummy Chinese, and they're very quick:

Great dumplings, soups, etc.

Enjoy!

Metro Marche, which is right by the 8th ave. entrance of the Port Authority building is very good. I usually get steak or the fish and chips, plus a martini or wine. They'll have you out of there within 30 minutes, I'm sure.

I saw the 39 Steps in London, and loved it. Have fun.

We just had a great burger at Five Napkin Burger, it was quick and well done. They have sushi there too!
