Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

I love breakfast; often have it for lunch or supper (though never as "dinner"--if I'm having it in the evening, it is SUPPER!). This morning, though, I hadda have something different.

Poured a quart of chicken broth into a pan, spiked it with parsley leaves and a bit of garlic, heated to a simmer, melted a pat of butter in, then dropped in the dumpling dough I'd whipped up while it was heating. Simmer, simmer, uncovered, covered, then scooped a couple fluffies into a big bowl, floated them in a few scoops of newly silked broth, and O! best breakfast I've had in a long time!

What non breaky foods do you enjoy on those rare occasions?

I just had a beef taco for breakfast. Leftovers from last night. In fact, that is what I usually have for breakfast. I'm not a big cereal fan or egg eater so you will often find me with a baked stuffed potato or chicken parm at the breakfast table.

Haven't had this in ages, and it's a very college thing to do, but I still love cold pizza

I can eat anything for breakfast.
I've had ramen, Japanese curry & rice, leftover Sukiyaki (the best part!) etc, but my favorite non-breakfast breakfast is cake... or pie, can't decide.

cold pizza here too, meem21. And cold leftover Chinese is good also.

My mom is famous for her breakfast "fridge-foraging"...she'll pair last night's grilled chicken breast with leftover sauteed spinach/olive oil/garlic and some pita bread, and that's her quintessential breakfast.

cold left over baked ziti. the ultimate comfort food breakfast.

I was kind of infamous in my home growing up for not liking breakfast foods. Well, I did love some, but not the ones that were fast enough to do before going to school in the morning (pancakes, waffles, etc). I went through a phase where I ate two hotdogs, topped with velveeta, no bun, dipped in ketchup and mustard every.day. They were just thrilled I was eating something in the morning, so whether I was doing that or eating leftover hamburgers or anything else from the night before, it was all good.

Cold pizza, cottage cheese with a kosher dill pickle and soup are some of my "breakfast" favorites. A bagel with cream cheese or the occasional omelet is about the closest I get to traditional breakfast food.
My husband used to have a hot turkey sandwich every morning when he was a grill cook at a diner that opened at 5 am. I think it was because he was cooking so many eggs, pancakes and waffles that he wanted something else.

Spaghettios before skiing. Seriously, I need hot carbs before a long morning of what is becoming a strenuous activity and when you stay in a rented condo, you need something that can be heated uin about a minute and eaten in the heating vessel so that you do not slow the group down!

Rare occasions? I have never been a breakfast food for breakfast type of person, actually. I love pancakes for dinner, but not for breakfast. Instead, you can often find me eating a salad, tuna out of the tin, baked beans out of the tin, or perhaps just some fruit and yoghurt, but not really breakfast foods. I tend to reverse myself and have a una sandwich in the morning, and come home and make waffles for dinner. Is that strange?

@joyyy: I was and still am completely the same way. In fact, just last week I had that same hotdog, no bun, with mustard and ketchup breakfast - and I liked it so much that I had it again for dinner that same night. I love that stuff!

And I totally forgot to add cold pizza! And sushi, and hamburgers...

I don't like most western breakfast foods (sausage, bacon, most cooked prep of eggs, toast, etc.), so eating that sort of breakfast fare is extremely rare. I am not a total breakfast hater. I sometimes prep a Japanese breakfast of steamed or grilled salmon, miso soup, pickled vegetables, salad, and rice.

For breakfast, I often eat ramen/udon (+ shrimp, fried Spam, spinach, raw egg, etc.), yakisoba, somen, chili with rice, beef stew with rice, steak, pad thai, curry, etc. Really, anything unbreakfasty.

I like to eat breakfast foods for as many meals as possible...but one non-breakfasty thing I do is serve my fried eggs on a bed of sautéed kale.

leftover anything for breakfast is amazing - pizza, pasta, spicy korean food, meatballs, etc.

soup is also a good choice. i think anything salty or super flavorful (like leftovers, where flavors have had time to blend together) is awesome in the morning.

i also love a regular ol' sandwich in the morning.

I'm with Traveller - I don't prefer "normal" breakfast food at all. I despise cereal, granola, etc., and am not that interested in waffles, pancakes and toast. I love eggs, but I don't consider them strictly breakfast food. The kinds of things I love to eat for breakfast food are pasta, cheese grits, leftover pizza, leftover Chinese food, any kind of sandwich, burritos, even salad. Basically, something savory, with plenty of carbs and protein.

Pasta is my favorite breakfast. Sometimes just noodles and butter, but cottage cheese is a nice addition. I also like ramen with whatever I can find in the fridge, usually an egg and some veggies. I've been eating steamed ramen instead of the fried variety lately to cut back on fat calories.

Cold pizza, leftovers, or a sandwich.

cold pizza, cold leftover chinese, both classics.
As a child and teenager I ate many, many strange breakfasts because in my house, if you really liked dinner last night, breakfast was probably your only chance to get at the leftovers. cold fried oysters for breakfast? sounded yummy to me, kinda worried my mother.
and on the friday after thanksgiving, you HAVE to have pumpkin pie for breakfast!

Rare occasion? Heh. I rarely eat breakfast food in the morning. Breakfast for dinner, sure. But not first thing. If I'm hungry in the morning (which is not always the case) I'll grab whatever is there. It might be leftovers, it might be a sandwich, or it might be cake, pie or cookies.

About as breakfasty as I ever get is toast or oatmeal. But I eat oatmeal with just a little butter and salt -- nothing sweet -- so it's more of a savory thing than a sweet one.

lately I've been having a grilled chicken sandwich for breakfast, SO thinks I'm nuts but its got protein and carbs and even the dr said it was better for me than "regualar" breakfast food.

I love soup for breakfast with a big hunk of sour dough bread.

When I was a kid my dad would go down to our pond at dawn and catch a few bream. I recall waking to the sound of fish frying. My mother would cook grits and slice fresh tomatoes. Fried fish, grits, and tomatoes - probably a southern thing but it makes for one tasty breakfast.

Other breakfast favorites were Posse's hash or Castlebury's stew over grits, and fried liver pudding/mush.

Cold pizza, leftover pasta, boxed mac and cheese (seriously!)...whatever. Actually breakfast today was leftover cold lasagna.

leftover steak with homemade horseradish....
smoked salmon rolled with goat cheese
but my new breakfast is greek yogurt with pumpkin butter
and walnuts....

My recent breakfast has been Turkey, mayo and spicy sweet pickles on a potato roll.

Cold pizza and leftover fried chicken are favorites with me.

I totally love breakfast food, but am usually too groggy in the morning to do anything about that. Instead, it's almost always leftovers. My last three breakfasts:
--some leftover duck stuffing
--green bean, green tomato, & shallot salad
--Ben & Jerry's strawberry cheesecake ice cream

I am amazed so many serious eaters enjoy untraditional breakfasts - I remember 60 years ago, I thought my sister was weird because she always fancied sweet things like, ice cream, cake or pie for breakfast. She is now in her late 50's and she says she has to fight that same temptation still. I was always a traditional toast and jam, or oatmeal or cereal and fruit breakfast eater, but a real indulgence is still my very favorite - crispy bacon, fried eggs and toast!

buckwheat soba in miso soup, topped with a poached egg. Scallions and reconstituted wakame if I feel fancy. One pot breakfast of champions.

leftover rice fried with soy sauce, shallots, and ginger - topped with a sunny side egg & lots of schriacha

I love the smell of lasagne in the morning. And the taste.

the first meal of the day for me is nearly always leftovers that are in the fridge from last night's dinner. if i'm on my own for dinner (no point in cooking up a ton of food for the house), i'll make bacon, fried eggs, and toast.

i totally agree with the cold pizza and cold chinese food. delicious! ill also eat pasta, or whatever happens to be leftovers. leftover mac and cheese. the oddest would prob be potato salad, my mom makes the best dill potato salad.

Growing up, we could have anything "real" for breakfast. No cake, pie, cookies, pudding. So, since I have always had a problem with milk (and heartily dislike it), soup, smoked pork chops, leftover hamburgers, Taylor pork roll and eggs worked for me and my pushy father. He was the breakfast fascist in our house; my mom wasn't a breakfast person and couldn't care less, as long as we ate something!
Now, I love making eggy/carby breakfasts and take my time eating and reading the paper.

Wow, I'm almost completely the opposite. I can eat any breakfast food at any time of the day, and pretty much do - omelettes/scrambled eggs for lunch or dinner happen multiple times a week, along with a slice of toast, a muffin, or hash browns - but I really can't do anything for breakfast besides traditional breakfast food. The only exceptions are cold pizza (but no, I can't do cold pasta, Chinese food or anything else), and dessert. No problem knocking off a slice of chocolate cake or a few cookies with my coffee. But that's really it...

an unheated can of ravioli on hiking trips -- definitely cold pizza is a favorite -- and slices of yesterday's baguette topped with olive oil and salt

I eat soup or a sandwich for breakfast most days and I love eggs for dinner. I've always been this way but there is also a practical reason. I can't eat for an hour after I take my thyroid meds in the morning so I eat at my desk. Soup and sandwiches work better than eggs (can't stand them if they're not freshly cooked) or cereal (I hate having to transport milk.)

@sugartoast--that sounds awesome.

I love love love leftover homemade chicken noodle soup for breakfast. Today I woke up at 4am for some unknown reason and couldn't get back to sleep. It's now 7:30 and I have made a huge pot of bolognese. Breakfast was a wee bowl of the hot sauce with some multigrain bread to dip.

I am not a huge fan of breakfast foods for some reason. I will eat regular (lunch, dinner) foods at any time of day. Leftovers from a restaurant, pizza, soup, anything....
