Mint Ice Cream Recommendations?

Hello serious eaters! I have come to you today seeking guidance from you all, the only people I trust for food advice haha.

I am a HUGE mint fan, and I have been in search of a good mint chocolate ice cream for a long while now. I can’t seem to find one I like. The mint chip ice creams I have come across so far have all had weird candy “chocolate” pieces in them that I find to be to chalky, or I find the mint flavor is too washed out and sugary.

Anyone have a favorite mint (or mint chocolate) ice cream?

Thanks serious eaters!

Crushed thin mint girl scout cookies in your favorite vanilla ice cream recipe. It's just about perfect.

I tried making mint ice cream using an infusion of fresh mint, but the result wasn't minty enough and was too herbal/grassy for my taste. I think using a dried mint infusion might have been a better choice, but I haven't tried that yet.

Ben & Jerry's mint chocolate cookie - the best parts of mint chip and cookies and cream in one! Bonus points for the mint ice cream being white and not green.

Breyers mint chocolate is really good.

One of my sons loves Schwan's green mint ice cream and their green mint ice cream bars. They have a white mint ice cream limited-time only (I think for summer) that he likes a lot, too, but he said it's not as minty as the green one. To me, it's just okay. I like the one you can only get around Christmas that's white mint with crushed candy canes.

@dbcurrie--never thought of that. It's only, what, eight more months until cookie season begins? I'll be counting the days. Thanks for the idea.

they make a girl scout cookie thin mint ice cream, but i have been hesitant to buy it A) i dont want anyone ruining thin mints for me, and B) it has a chocolate ice cream base, and i am not a fan of chocolate ice cream.

The new Haagen-Daz Five mint flavor is AMAZING. No chocolate chips, but it's easy enough to add your own good quality chocolate pieces or hot fudge sauce, cookies, etc.

I second the Ben & Jerry's Mint Chocolate Cookie!! Highly addictive... It's so hard not to finish the whole container.

Mint chocolate chip is generally not something I buy in the carton. I usually choose to get it on a cone at an ice cream shop.

Are you looking for a chocolate sauce or cookies rather than the chip in a mint ice cream?

@bliz

i guess i am looking for either a pure white mint, or a mint swirled with some kind of chocolate .. i guess REAL chocolate chunks would be okay, i am just really put off by the weird chips they put in most mint chip ice cream ... the chalky hard kind ..blehh

I second the Haagen Dasz Five Mint Ice Cream. It's DELICIOUS. I just add some fancy dark chocolate chunks or some homemade chocolate ganache.

The Sundae Shoppe brand from Aldi is pretty darn good for under $2.00 for a half gallon.

Third the Haagen Dazs Five Mint. It's so refreshing and not to sweet. I'd crumble really good dark chocolate wafer cookies over it. Yum.

I used to love Ciao Bella's Fresh Mint Chocolate Chip gelato, but they drastically changed the formula. It used to be white and super-spearminty, now it's green and just tastes like green tea to me. Not bad, just not minty enough.
