Melon question
I have a huge cantaloupe at home that is just about ripe and I want to cut it, but am going away this weekend and won't be around to eat it. Can I put it in the fridge for a couple days to stop it from getting too ripe and cut it when I get back? I do this with avocados and it works...please let me know if you have tried this.

It works with bananas too. I've put a cut in half melon, cut side down on a plate, in the fridge and that works fine.

I second @goodcooker's suggestion to cut it in half and refrigerate it cut side down.
You should cut some up and pack it on your trip for a refreshing, re-hydrating snack.

Just out of curiosity, why cut the melon in half before refrigerating?

still tasty claims it will last 7-10 days in your fridge once ripe.
