Kitchen help???

Since this is "cooks" website, do any of you real cooks have a glass backsplash? We are re-doing our kitchen and I think I want a granite countertop but I really want small tile glass type backspalsh. I am concerned about keeping it clean. Any input????

I have matte glazed italian tile (not very shiny) 6x6. Anything shiny will show dirt, dust and splatter. I had a shiny tile backsplash in a house previously and I would never do that again.

I have a smoked (black) mirror backsplash to match the black granite counter- no problem caring for it, it always looks super.

my mom has tiny glass tiles as a backsplash. it looks awesome and is easy to keep clean. she used a grout sealer.

Oh and don't use white grout. I believe it depends what part of the counter you are backsplashing and how much cleaning you are willing to do.

I have a mirror back splash on black granite counters (it's a rental, it wasn't my choice), but surprisingly it's not filthy. It just needs a little Windex now and then, especially after I fry or saute something. That said, I personally would never choose a mirror or anything shiny as a back splash - it shows dirt and grease too easily. The one thing it has going for it is to make the small kitchen feel a little bigger.

Behind that stove I have a slab of granite the same as my countertops - beige/ green/ brown - kitchen camouflage! Much forgiving than glossy black, which shows every drop of water. If you use tile, definitely seal the grout - tomato sauce is impossible to clean otherwise

@andshewas~~~~what kind of counters does your mother have?

I agree with Andshewas; just use a grout sealer. My mom had a glass backslash installed into our house. It was extremely easy to clean.
Good luck finishing your renovation!
