I eat ______ out of the tin/jar/bottle...

Well, this one comes out of the fact that I had a horrible day yesterday. I presented my disseration for my Master's, and although he director thought that it was brilliant, he is threatening to give me no more than a B on it, because I was only able to travel to four countries, which is the minimum, rather than five, since there was a nation-wide (police, hospitals, trains, government...) strike in Hungary and i couldn't get into the country. Needless to say, I was not amused and that prety much ruined my day....(that was the short short version...)

So, when I got home, I proceeded to do something that I generally do when I am really upset - I took my bottle of grainy mustard and ate the contents using only my finger....it's a comfort thing.

So, I wanted to know what ye eat out of the bottle, the tim or the jar when you are upset, happy, starving, craving....

Full disclosure - I also eat Heinz (British-style) Baked Beans out of the tin with a small spoon...when I am really in a good mood. That is close to Heaven for me. :)

181 Comments:

Garbanzos. Pickles, though I rarely buy jarred anymore. Peanut butter. Pumpkin butter.

Pepperoncini. And since you disclosed the Heinz baked beans, I'll come clean about eating cold spaghetti-o's from a can. Not often, but really, even once a year is too much for that sort of behavior!

Mushrooms - that is the only reason we have the canned variety, for me to eat straight from the can; otherwise, we buy them fresh for our meals.

Corn, pickled anything, condensed milk (just a spoonful or two or three), almond agar agar, lychee, mitsumame, sweetened azuki, hmm...that's all I can think of. Oh, ice cream pints.

I find it gross when people drink straight from a milk carton, but not gross when I eat ice cream straight from its container. Gotta love double standards.

As a child, my husband would eat the Comstock blueberry pie filling from the container...in one sitting. On occasion, he'll drink the pickle brine straight from the jar.

Queen size green olives with pimentos and Sweet midget gherkins--also peanut butter and nutella...

pickles, peanut butter, pepperoncini, grainy mustard (I thought I was alone in this!), fluff (although I haven't had a jar in my pantry in years), marmalade, honey, capers, olives, pickle relish...Basically I should just be kept away from anything in jars or I will eat the contents, apparently.

This may sound strange, but I ate tomato paste straight from the can last night. Just added a dash of olive oil. It was pretty tasty.

olives, pickles, cocktail onions, capers, pepperoni slices. i also like stand at the fridge with the doors open dousing grainy mustard on a pretzel.

Peanut butter, ice cream, and apricot jam. I also spray whipped cream from an aeresol can directly into my mouth when no one is looking.

@kerosena: I am the same way once in a great while: spaghetti-o's out of the tin...so good...but yet, so bad....

@Juman23: i have done that, too. Although, I have also been known to have the squeeze tube of tomato paste and eat that; spreading on a finger a little bit at a time, like toothpaste. Geez, now I am starting to scare myself...

Oh, and sauerkraut. I eat that right from the can, too.

i'll eat tuna out of a can w/a little salt. (saves washing a bowl)
@cassaendra: with you on the ice cream double standard bit!
@juman23: not so weird-i made rice and mixed a small can of paste into it-wound up being quite good & filling. (i think that tomato paste is supposed to be pretty healthy for you anyway.)

Um, smoked oysters. Mmmmm.

And olives of any sort go from jar or can to mouth.

Marinated artichoke hearts and mushrooms, although I've not done so in a long while.

Peanut Butter.

love baked beans straight from the can. jarred olives, pickles and pickled veggies.

Mustard
Salsa
Peanut butter
Anchovies
Jam and jelly

I actually rarely put condiments ON things. I'd rather just eat them.

Also... I used to really like Spaghettio's... Cold. From the can.

Oh my gosh, I didn't even notice that other people like cold Spaghettio's!!!

I'm glad I admitted it.

well, just about anything goes almost. I recently made jam for the first time and I can't stop just eating spoonfuls of it right from the jar! Never done that with any jam or jelly before. I also drink from the milk carton, though I don't really drink that much milk.

Also, green beans from a can, corn from a can, hummus, ice cream, whipped cream from the can, peanut butter, nutella, condensed milk, dulce de leche (made from the condensed milk), artichoke hearts, olives, pepporchinis, pickles (though isn't that how everyone eats the last three?!), sometimes I'll take a swig of Bailey's straight from the bottle just because it's so tasty.

If I were serving any of the above to guests, then I'd keep my paws out of it, but it's just me and my two kids, so I don't really feel bad about it at all!

an entire pint of ice cream; peanut butter; nutella; strawberry preserves; humas

@kerosena: You and I must have very simliar taste buds, because I love sauerkraut like that, too!

LOVE sauerkraut out of the can.....tastes so good

I eat sweetened condensed milk out of the can...with the help of piece of sweet French baguette.

I eat sardines straight from the can ( tin ) as I wouldn't want to contaminate a dish.

In the country stores of my youth hillbillies would sit around a potbelly stove and eat pork & beans from a can with their pocket knives. They also cleaned their fingernails with those same pocket knives. Disgusting!

@Traveller--that is dreadful, truly dreadful. Do you have any recourse?

Still, your reaction brings new meaning to the term 'hitting the sauce.'

@Cassaendra , gastro, et al - wow. I thought my papa and I were the only ones who ate mush from a can! hoodathunkit!

I really love:

pickles
olives,
picked herring
smoked oysters,
and the mush

mmmmmmmm

Olives stuffed w/ citrus or jalapenos.

Pickles, olives, Nutella, corn, french cut green beans, chocolate frosting (haven't had that in a long time), ice cream, peanut butter, chocolate syrup (squirted in the mouth). Another vote for sauerkraut.

@littlestcapy when I saw this post I immediately thought of fluff! I figured I would come up with a bunch of other things too, but can only think of fluff, peanut butter and Mrs Richardson's caramel butterscotch sauce. Oh and my Auntie's Bub's hot fudge sauce on the rare occasion that I make it, it is almost better cold straight from the jar than it is on ice cream!
I see a disturbing pattern ;}

almond butter, salsa, pickles, sauerkraut, honey, A1 steak sauce

These are funny. I'm with most everyone on a) peanut butter --- I actually have an abundant fondness for PB; God I love it--- b) olives, especially kalamatas. I have to watch myself on that one! c) pickles. how could one not love pickles? d) anchovies!!! mmmm that richness. I'm a salt freak, clearly.

About the ice cream. IM SUCH A BAD DOUBLE DIPPER!!!!! with ice cream, yogurt, anything. I got busted the other night-- I was met with some serious disgust! ha.

I'm with mrsmoosie on the Mrs. Richardson's.

When my sons were much younger (back in the dark ages before fresh mushrooms were a staple in the produce section), they all got cans of Pennsylvania Dutch mushrooms in their Christmas stockings and they were delighted! They got that from my side of the family; their dad can't stand cold canned mushrooms.

Skippy Honey Roasted peanut butter. Oh, and cream cheese.

First choice, without a doubt, is peanut butter - Peanut Butter & Co.'s Dark Chocolate Dreams, if at all possible. Other options include, but are not limited too hummus or other bean dip, guacamole, salsa, sweetened condensed milk, whipped cream (yes, the occasional Cool Whip too - don't shoot me, please), fudge sauce, baking chips of any kind. And ice cream, too, of course.

Peanut butter, pickles, canned vegetables, sardines, honey, hummus, occasionally some salsas.

...And the other day I got done with a really hot long run where I had sweated like a disgusting person and wanted salt, so I ate half a container of chili powder.

Nutella
Hot Pepper Rings
Dill spears or chips
My pickled green tomatoes
Kalamata Olives
Peanut Butter
Marshmallow Fluff (if I ever have it in the house...a rarity)
Sun Dried Tomatoes in oil

Herring in cream sauce, PB and in a desperate moment....Bac-Os

Capers, Eagle Brand, Marshmallow Cream

Amazing how many of us have the same cravings. I once went on the carb free diet and stayed with it for some weeks. I found myself in the pantry with a spoon, eating marshmallow cream from the jar! Time to go off that one!

My comfort food from a can is Del Monte French cut green beans from the can. I drain all the water, dump them in a bowl, nuke it and eat it witht a fork. Mashed potatoes complete the comfort factor.

I was recently introduced to Fluff and that is some amazing stuff.

Otherwise, I do use jam, honey, various condiments from jars for everyday use.

oh wait... i totally read the question wrong.. I don't actually eat the green beans from the can... though, maybe I will next time so I don't have to do any dishes.. hmmmmm

next time, I will read a bit more carefully! ;)

really good chunky salsa
and i've definitely done the peanut butter spoon deal. but not in a long time.

Pickles and applesauce but not at the same time.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about your defense. I've been through two of those and it just stinks to work your butt off and get stuck on a technicality.

@cycorider: I seriously let outa HAAA!! at your chili powder-eating spontaneity!!!!

I think that I will use these ideas for when I am eating alone:-)

Cold creamed corn, straight from the can with a teaspoon. This was my official studying snack while in University (for 13 yrs...) Try it, so good...

Also artichoke hearts, pickles, olives, alphonso mango puree, any type of tinned fruit (pineapple, peaches,pears...), babaghanoush (the tinned stuff is extra smoky), jam, honey, stem ginger in syrup, almond butter, and of course, peanut butter.

BBQ sauce :)

Honey
Tomato paste (so relieved to know I'm not the only one!)
Mushrooms
Pickles
Olives
Fruit preserves, jam, jelly
Mustard
Pumpkin butter
Applesauce
Tinned fruit (usually peaches)
Sun-dried tomatoes
Peppadews

I will confess to occasionally eating cold Spaghettios as well... not often (I rarely even have them around), but every once in a while I get a craving for them.

When I was a child, I used to eat frosting straight from the container. So sad... I'm cringing at the thought now. But tomato paste, honey, or any of the aforementioned foods? Oh, that's perfectly okay... :)

peanut butter and ice cream!

Peanut butter
Pickles/olives
Frosting (there was a time when I bought cans of frosting specifically for eating with a spoon but I no longer do that)

Asparagus.*

*Please don't judge. I grew up with my mom putting them in salads and I still like them that way. To me they are an entirely different food from fresh asparagus.

love olives out of the jar. also olive salad.

corn, smoked oysters/mussels, sardines, and pickles. i always feel eating the pickles is like stealing food from the fridge for a snack.

jam.
occasionally salsa or pasta sauce on a spoon.

sweetened condensed milk.

{and nutella and smoked oysters.}

@ regrettablefoodie: Ain't nothing wrong with buying frosting just to eat it out of the can. Personally, I like chocolate frosting and a bag of pretzels. The pretzels make fantastic scoops for frosting.

I will also eat anchovies, peanut butter, olives, pickles, marinated artichoke hearts, condensed milk, and jam right out of the jar/bottle/squeezy-thing. Mmmm...

Mustard. It horrifies my mother.

I used to have a roommate who ate canned peas straight from the can - complete with that greyish water they sit in. Shudder.

pepperoncini, black olives, green olives.

I eat condensed chicken soup right out of the can. You know the stuff you have to add water to. Cambell's or store brand. It makes no difference to me just don't add water and don't heat.

i commonly forego the bowl for ice cream and eat it right out of the carton

I also spray whipped crem right into my mouth too

Whipped cream...from a CAN.

Also, most Chef Boyardee things from the can...every once in a while I'll crave it's trashy goodness and want some ravioli...I'll end up eating half of them while I dump them into the bowl to nuke.

Peanut butter (fingers only please); artichoke hearts; sardines; herring; pickles; jam; I used to eat frosting from the can, but it had to be chocolate. I love sauerkraut and the juice right from the can as well.

I can't even remember the last time I scooped ice cream from the container into a bowl before eating it.

Frosting, jam, peanut butter...

Sometimes, even sugar from sugar packets (especially Sugar in the Raw!). Talk about a sugar rush =)

frosting. best if it's been in the fridge for a while.
the other night I was dipping pretzels into a spoonful of peanut butter with some honey drizzled on.
I cannot be left alone! When my husband is away all I do it eat disgusting items.

smoked oysters, sardines out of the tin

Olives, pickles, hot fudge sauce, marinated artichokes out of a jar

Cocktail onions.

Olives, pickles, giardineira (sp?).

Cottage cheese.

capers
brined green peppercorns

and not from a jar, but from a bottle: a teaspoon of honey now and then

this is in addition to the normal stuff like pickles and olives mentioned by others

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only person to eat cold Spaghetti-O's out of a can. Well guys, welcome another member to the fold.

Bagged salad. I'll just toss in some dressing and shake, shake, shake.

Any kind of Goya bean.

Olives, marinated artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes.

Peanut butter

Ice Cream

chocolate frosting (Betty Crocker or Pillsbury, doesn't matter). [hangs her head in shame...]

I'll eat almost anything straight out of a can but these are my favorites:
Peanut Butter
Jelly/Jam
Fluff
Corn
Green Beans
Hot Fudge
Molasses
Pickles
Sour Cream

Marshmallow Fluff. Only 40 calories per Tbsp.

I had a problem for a long time ... a Nutella problem that is. I can no longer purchase the stuff because I eat an entire jar in a couple of sittings. I recently made cupcakes and have been spooning leftover frosting from the can ever since. It's a sad sad sad substitute for Nutella!

Olives, pickles, oysters, peanut butter, bleu cheese dressing, ranch dressing, honey, ice cream (tub), jelly/jam, frosting, cottage cheese, canned fruits, applesauce

Why get out a plate/bowl when its ready to be eaten.

Did anyone mention mayonnaise? Guilty

As a kid I used to take a spoon and put peanut butter on one half and Smuckers strawberry jam on the other.....pure bliss!!

Dittos to olives, pickles (especially the brine...yum) and fluff!!

olives, hot peppers, peanut butter, frosting, ravioli, beef stew, baked beans, hot dogs. many more but a can of frosting is calling me.

marinated artichokes. sardines. sweet corn. and of course, ReddiWip (although not in a long long time!).

So many of you stole mine!

My list: olives, ice cream, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff...

Hillary
Chew on That

Pickles - sometimes I drink the juice too...
Sauerkraut
Pickled banana peppers
Fish
Condensed milk

Peanut butter, corn, and pickles. I also take a swig of pickle juice every once in a while.

Any sort of dip, olives, pickles, ice cream

Nutella, any kind of fruit butter.. Oh, and almost anything by that uber-faux-farmers-market-fresh "Stonewall Kitchen" brand. And pear jam, especially the brand that has a whole vanilla bean stuffed in it!

Oh, and marachino cherries. In droves.

Nutella, of course. Almost anything from that faux-famers-market "Stonewall Kitchen" brand. Any kind of fruit butter. Oh, and pear-vanilla jam. Especially the brand (can't remember which one) that sells it with a whole vanilla bean IN the jar. I'm not on the Atkins diet, I just feel like sometimes, crackers/bread/etc are completely superfluous to the condiment's commute from jar-to-mouth.

Just last night, I had the italian tuna in olive oil out of the can with a squeeze of lemon juice and some cracked pepper. Yummm. When I was little I would eat spaghetti-os from the can.... Haven't had them in years but I bet I would still prefer them cold.

Coconut milk--just one or two spoons full.

Nutella and every once in a while, while I'm baking, I will sneak a little sweetened condensed milk from the can!

salsa and peanut butter (no, not together).

green beans or mushrooms right out of the can. Miracle Whip out of the jar. That's right.... I said it. Miracle Whip.

Here's my list:

Olives/Pickles ~ and if the olives happen to be stuffed with feta, dear god that bottle can be gone in a minute.
Fluff
Peanut Butter
Sour Cream ~ @smartypants: yay! I am not the only one. Just so good.
Cream Cheese ~ spoon or finger, it's all good.
Salsa
Bush's Baked Beans
Ice Cream

I can't think of anything else...I think my mind has gone to mush at this point.

nutella and peanutbutter!

Okay, OP I have to say, congrats on getting through your defense. I know how difficult that is, and how much of an understatement "difficult" is!
AND... all my fellow eating-whipped-cream-straight-from-the-canners, did you see the bit on, I think it was Regis & Kelly? They had Andersoon Cooper on and I have no idea WHAT they were doing, but apparently poor AC had never been exposed to a can of whipped cream and had NO IDEA how to get it to come out! He was just squeezing the can as hard as he could... lol!
So... nutella (but not PB, go figure), whipped cream as aforementioned, frozen cool whip (luckily very rarely in the house), ice cream, kimchi, pickles, capers.
When I am baking or cooking with heavy cream... I always buy a leetle more than I need and drink the rest straight from the carton. Don't tell my mom.
When using brown sugar, a small lump or three usually finds its way to my mouth as well.

Ice cream and sardines...but not together

ok, seriously, what the heck is marshmallow fluff? why does everyone apparently have it in their pantry? and, what would you do with it if you weren't eating it out of the jar?!?

it's never occurred to me to eat my grainy mustard from the jar, but I do currently find myself trying to resist the urge to do so!

I usually stick to pickled beets, ice cream, hummus, and almond butter... does it count if you dip a banana in it first?

hearts of palm, pickles, salsa, corn :)

@KtMc24 - Me too! Whipping Cream from an aerosol can. Plus pickles, canned corn, ice cream and peanut butter.

Pickles (particularly cornichons) and ice cream (that's definitely a comfort thing)

@dewdle - I suggest you go out and buy some fluff! So not good for you but so good. I cannot resist a Fluffer Nutter (Peanut Butter and Fluff sandwich)..now I want one.. :)

Green Olives.

olives, pickles and salami almost never make it to a plate/slice of bread.

I always eat ice cream out of the container. It tastes better that way. Last night I ate a pint of Phish Food. Yes @dewdle buy some Fluff and if you don't want to eat it out of the jar then make fudge out of it and eat that out of the pan. Yum.

I never eat anything out of the container. I feel like such a freak. I go through a lot of trouble to have paper plates etc for easy disposal thank you Costco and Restaurant store, so I never have to make a mess but I never eat out a container.

I consume peanut butter, ice cream and slices of Oscar Mayer bologna straight out of the container. Sometimes I'll put a slice of American cheese on a piece (or two) of bologna, add a bit of yellow mustard and a dill pickle slice, then roll it up like an enchilada. Reddi wip chugged out of the aeroesol can is good, too. Even unheated pork and beans from the can tastes surprisingly good.

Oh, oh Linus787, Mayonnaise & more! Mayonnaise & peanut butter on a spoon & into the mouth!!! My true love is mayonnaise and peanut butter on a fresh slice of sourdough bread! (Love to have a pint of chocolate milk on the side). Olives, dill pickles for sure! And...a pint of butter pecan ice cream in one sitting, no bowl please, wrap a paper towel around that sucker and eat 'til it's all gone!!!! When I go on ice cream binges I eat a pint a night for several nights in a row then I'm through with ice cream for several months! And, NO, I am not overweight, 5'5" &125lbs!

Whipped strawberry frosting.
Marshmallow fluff.
Whipped cream.

Also, as a kid, I used to eat Oscar Mayer hot dogs straight from the package, which everyone reminds me is icky. :P

my mom eats cold spinach from the can. It is disgusting- but I sometimes wonder if that is the point...the ick factor! I can eat PB from the jar, and canned green beans- not nearly as disturbing as spinach though...

I can sprinkle a bit of salt in the carton and eat a whole container of sour cream just like other people eat ice cream. Delicious.

I'll also inhale Chef Boyardee cold from the can, as I will asparagus (yep, I think it's a different animal, too), peas, spinach. I have repulsive food habits, admittedly.

*(Brit style) Cold baked beans
*kimchi on its own while standing infront of the fridge with door open
*sweetcorn kernels with a squirt of mayo mixed in (staple diet of my student days)
*double cream. i love drinking fresh cream!
*the usual pickels, jam, peanut butter, nutella.

Please don't judge, but after a rough day last week I bought a can of Spam and dug it out of the can with a fork.

yes smoked oysters and spinach drained...not together though...ha

Gobs of peanut butter, of course! When I'm cooking I often snack out of the containers--a handful of chocolate chips here, a sip of heavy cream there...But I did have an R.A. in freshman year who would down entire bottles of salad dressing, usually at weird hours of the night.

peanut butter and kalamata olives. but not together, that would be nasty.

only and absolutely, nutella

in high school once i ate a whole jar of that "goober" stuff.... you know, its peanut butter with stripes of jelly in it. that was GOOD. i started in lunch and just took it to class and ate the whole thing. well, it started out good, but after awhile you stop tasting it.
also in high school i ate a tin of cherry vanilla lip balm at a party... i dont remember what brand it was but it was DELICIOUS.
currently its just honey right from the bear onto the finger, reddi whip in the mouth, and if im making cupcakes, frosting from the jar [pink vanilla or cream cheese!!]. oh and i have been known to eat butter/margarine from the tub... fricking country crock is so delicious!!! any sort of really salty, sweet butter. the whipped stuff, in my opinion, is only made to be eaten straight.

and oh yeah, chocolate chips straight from the bag!
and i forgot my worst offense... shredded cheese. usually just a pinch when im making tacos or something, but i have been known to down half a bag as a "snack." its like crack, i love straight cheese more than regular food.

Black Olives, Peanut Butter, Ice Cream, Pickled stuff.

I've read many confessions here but I must ROFLMAO @ Bac-Os. :D

Condensed milk, sticky, lovely spoonfuls of it. hopefully I have some right now

Chocolate frosting or cream cheese frosting
cookie dough
shredded cheese (soooo guilty)
cranberry sauce

Dulce de leche!

PICKLES! and then i drink the juice...YUMMY!

~Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk
~Trader Joe's Spicy Egg White Salad
~Anything that's considered mine and none of the other 4 people in the house will eat it/Anything that's not going to last long is up for grabs because the double dipping bacteria won't have time to ruin it.

ohh let the shame begin ...

i eat chunky natural peanut butter in spoonfuls
good jams
apple butter
apple sauce
SALSA .. i know its weird, but i love eating just spoonfuls of salsa (if its a good fresh spicy kind)
canned yams
canned pumpkin

ugh .. there are too many haha

My husband drinks worcestershire sauce straight from the bottle!

The Trinity... PB, Nutella, and Fluff. Sometimes altogether. Oh, and Quaker OH's cereal to go with them.

PICKLES! Olives, roasted peppers, anything to get that salty, sour fix!! mmmm

Icing, vanilla preferably.
If it's a good day I'll dip something into it... if it's a bad day just hand me a spoon

Oh god...condensed milk!! Now I have a massive craving for some :)

Other than that, just peanut butter by the fingerful...

I drink pickle juice, too! My boyfriend grosses out but since he doesn't eat pickles the jars are mine to do with what I will.

I also make little enchilada things from luncheon meat - usually ham, though. A little mustard, a little mayo and yes, sometimes pickles. Actually, when I was doing Atkins, I sometimes called that lunch.

Deviled ham mixed with Heinz green relish on ritz....it's what my Memere used to feed me when I'de visit her in FL...my boyfriend calls it catfood.

nutella, peanut butter and rainbow chip icing mmm

pickles, jarred roasted peppers, sardines, tuna, nutella, honey, and liverwurst in the can (from the dustiest shelves via the deepest bowels of Eastern Europe). The question should be who is prudish enough to never eat directly from a jar or can?

Classico Four Cheese spaghetti sauce. I know, I know, homemade sauce is a lot better, but I just love anything tomato. Classico is pretty good on a big plate of pasta with some grated parmesan, but it is even better right out of the jar.

@sandn8r9

I LOVE that sauce! I usually cheap-out and buy the generic from Meijer (it's nearly the same) and I am always tempted to pop open the jar and dip bread in it.

I'll squirt hoisin straight into my mouth. I just love it.

Peanut butter.
Pineapple rings (must be cold!).
Honey.

fluff, peanut butter, frosting, pudding, ice cream

Nutella, peanut butter, olives, preserves, pickled banana peppers, jarred sauerkraut (my fave is Bubbies Old Fashioned Sauerkraut), capers, honey, and soy sauce. I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of right now!

pepper
cookie

capers. mmm so salty.

Ricotta cheese and sour cream

Am I the only one that eats french's fried onions directly from the can? My grandma would save me the the large clumps when she made tuna noodle casserole, and ever since it has been a not-so heart-healthy habit.

Peanut Butter
Condensed Milk

you guys all just made my day---FUNNY STUFF!!! when i was a little girl i would sneak TWO THINGS 1. handfuls of shredded coconut from a bag my mom kept in the freezer. 2. chunks of brown sugar from the bag GOOD STUFF!

when I was studying in med school I needed fast calories preferrably with chocolate, which currently explains my unusual ability to chug Hershey's chocolate syrup straight from that jug thing.

also im glad im not the only one with condensed milk problems, I used to open one can for my vietnamese coffee and it would be gone in 2 days from sneaking fingerfuls.

I'm soo glad so many other people said salsa. I get a funny look from everyone but I could eat a jar of salsa easy!

Peanut butter.

And I dip it out with a chilled chocolate bar.

When I was at boarding school I could eat Vienna sausages right of the can. I haven't done that in a while.

When I was 4 or 5, I got my finger caught in a can of condensed milk. Now that I am an adult and use the can opener and open the whole lid, I don't have that problem anymore when I sneak a spoon or two.

Cottage Cheese, Olives, Peanut Butter, Sauerkraut, Gerber Meat Sticks (I know, I know, they're for 6-month-olds or something but they're delicious), and Queso dip. Oh, and I do admit that I'm a big fan of cold hot dog weenies straight out of the package as well.

It's fun reading the guilty pleasures of a bunch of people who love to cook. :)

Olive oil by the teaspoon. Weird yes I know, but good olive oil is just so good by its self.
cream cheese from the tub, sea salt, and sauerkraut.
They are all just so good. :)

hummus, taramasalata (Whole Foods makes a pretty good version), peanut butter, queso cheese dip (who needs chips for dipping?) rainbow sprinkle icing and capers. Sometimes a person just needs instant gratification :]

Peanut butter, hummus, tzatziki, Nutella, confetti chip frosting, chocolate fudge frosting, cookie dough, ice cream, canned salmon, pickles, cocktail onions, corn syrup, the list goes on!

Hummus, pickles, peanut butter and ice cream. But not at the same time!

kippered herring
green olives
pickles

Tomato Paste! It's terrific by the spoon!

peanut butter, nutella, fluff, raspberry jam, cake frosting, ice cream, cherry pie filling....really anything sweet that comes in a can/jar/tub.

Peanut butter, cookie dough, ice cream, cheese, frosting, beets, and pickles.

Thanks to a friend, I "drink" applesauce straight from the jar -- no spoon required! It really does taste best this way. :)

Manjar, pickles, knackwurst, cream cheese, any type of fruit :)

Wickles Spicy Bread and Butter pickles, Vienna Sausages, Green Giant Mexicali Corn...and I am not ashamed to admit I will mess up a can of Spaghettio's in a heartbeat. When I was younger I used to eat Chef Boyardee Beefaroni, cold, out of the can too.

Whipped cream out of the can, banana peppers, peanut butter, and back in the day, apple butter... mmmm... :)

Also wanted to add congrats to surviving your defense Traveller (even though your director was being difficult). I defended my Master's thesis in the fall of 2006 (after having to take an extra semester to make the changes to it that my committee required - UGH, they were insanely nitpicky) and I remember very well how stressful it was! I was 38 weeks pregnant during my defense, so at that point, I was pretty much daring them to find anything to critique, LOL. Anyway, kudos for all your hard work!

I keep a tub of Betty Crocker ready to use vanilla and chocolate frosting in my fridge for that moment when I want something sweet.. just a spoonful or 2, sometimes 3 is all it takes. Best comfort food.. a jar of peanut butter and a bottle of Welches squeeze grape jelly. a spoonful of peanut buttter with a dollop of jelly on top.. heaven..

fat toad dulce de leche
honey roasted peanut butter fresh from the store grinder
a pickle or two

NUTELLA - PEANUT BUTTER - HELLMAN'S - STRAWBERRY PRESERVES, ANY BRAND WILL DO!

Creamed corn, herring in sour cream.

Oh my, these were hilarious!

I personally love to drink any Olive juice out of the jar or can. It's my Mom's fault, and I'm sticking to it.

After visiting Buenos Aires, Dulce de Leche (like katylesser) is another fave!

Traveller, I hope your Director changed his mind. That seems unfair to me.
Cindy H
Cookie Stamps

Homemade fig perserves and Nutella are the regulars!

Pre-made cake frosting!!

Skippy chunky peanut butter.......for decades

After reading 169 comments, all I can say is: I am so happy to not be the only person on the planet who eats like this!

Peanut butter, Cool whip, baked beans, dill pickles, chocolate cake frosting, and ice cream. A lot of times I'll dip chocolate chip cookies in the Cool whip or the chocolate cake frosting.

spaghettios
peanut butter

Smoked Oysters.
Pickled Herring in Cream Sauce.
Bread&Butter Sandwich Stacker Pickles.

@dixisue, I like pb & mayo sandwiches, no matter what kind of breat I have, also occasionally add a few slices of ripe banana on that...if out of pb, sit there with banana slices on a plate, each one gets a small blobette of mayo, also good this way on a Ritz cracker.

otherwise, out of can or jar it's:
tuna, drained or undrained
Bush's beans, or B&M, best tasting IMO
Spag/MB from the can, so easy now with the zip-off tops!
uncondensed cream of broccoli or cream of chicken soup
HAVE to taste at least 2 tbl of any new jar spaghetti sauce
herring in cream sauce, or just plain pickled w/onions
sardines, in hot sauce, mustard or oil
salmon from a can, also love to drink the "juice"
pickles from a jar

When my sister & I went backpacking around Europe we were on a VERY limited budget... many times we arrived by bus in our next foriegn city, late at night, hungry & unfamiliar. I remember eating peas & corn cold out of the can after shopping at the 24-hour food mart in Barcelona... Dining on red wine & dark chocolate and jumping on the beds in our Paris hotel room... Eating Brie out of the package with a Swiss Army knife... Popping Pringles & chugging Fruitopia at 6am after a night of dancing & drinking in London...

Definately pints of icecream, gelato, sorbet, etc, many nights watching movies with my best friend, or doing a late-night "icecream run" with my sister & splitting a litre of Oreo...

I used to bake peanut butter cookies & eat them out of the pan

Pickles, pickled beets, pickled onions, relish, sauerkraut, olives, salsa, pasta sauce, condensed tomato soup, curried spinach, mushy peas, pie filling, peanut butter, jam, whipped topping, salad dressing, eggless mayonnaise, ketchup, bbq sauce... and yes, margarine...

PS I'm totally underweight, so I can justify eating an "entire" anything, including bags of cookies, a McCain cake, a frozen cream pie :)

I love to eat my own canned whole tomato's a quart size, right out of the jar. Reminds me of my mom and grandma and the farm in Ohio, great comfort and memory food for me. coco

Altoids? You must be kidding!

Peanut Butter; Olives; Pickles; Baked Beans; Chef Boyardee; Condensed Soup; Vegetables; Ice Cream; & Almost anything that doesn't require removal from the container for cooking. If it's cooked or sufficiently prepared in the container, I'll eat it right from said container.

@Traveller - you MUST have been upset. I can't imagine eating a jar of grainy mustard by itself! No, capers would be my choice, I love em.

BTW, congratulations on getting that dissertation over and to an old broad like myself, a "B" sounds pretty damned good.

ShawnaAdora had it right...and I guess we're the only ones....

MIRACLE WHIP right from the jar! I eat it sprinkled with black pepper. If I feel fancy, I spread it on crackers!
Cold Chef Boyardee ravioli's from the can ( a childhood vice)
Peanut butter
Eagle Brand milk
Garlic stuffed olives captured with a fork
