homemade ice cream cones?
i've been thinking about making my own cones. i know it's cheap and easy just to buy them, but i had this dream the other nite and everyone thought my cones were the best thing since bacon and it started me thinking. have you tried and what were your results?

Oh yeah! I bought an electric Krumkake maker, and it's the perfect size for reasonably-sized cones -- not huge waffle cones and not real tiny. And it has a pretty pattern instead of just a grid. I've used a couple of different recipes, but the ones in the book are fine.
I've also just molded them over an inverted bowl to make edible bowls for ice cream.
Kind of a neat thing is that you can add unexpected flavors to the cones, so you could have almond-flavored cones or cinnamon, or whatever you think would go with your ice cream flavor.
I've also used the Krumkake maker to make fortune cookes.
There are electric waffle cone makers, too. Or, you could make them in the oven, if you don't to buy an appliance. The trick is that you have to roll them when they're warm, and they set pretty fast. So if you think you're going to have six of them coming out of the oven at the same time, that's not going to work unless you have friends helping. The Krumkake maker does them one at a time, so it takes a while to get through a batch, but it's not difficult.

Maybe you could use a fortune cookie recipe and make larger circles and wrap them around some kind of cone shaped mold?

i thought i had a waffle maker in the cellar but i couldn't find it, so i just made them in a pan like pancakes. just a basic batter with a little extra vanilla and i put them over a small bowl i have. and i sprinkled some splenda on the inside before i molded them. they were pretty good. i think next time i'll try the oven so i don't have to flip them. the fortune cookie thing sounds like fun.

What about an Italian anisette cookie recipe? They're pliable when hot. There are special irons for these, too.

David Lebovitz's book does have recipes, though I have yet to make them so far.
Mainly, I am commenting because I feel a certain closeness to dearrie right now because you wake wanting to do what you did in a your dreams. I also get my best ideas when I am asleep.
