Foodie Spots in San Fran
I am heading out west next month and wanted to know places that might be interesting to visit and/ or eat. I know they have a great market there but would love to know a few other places worth checking out.

The Ferry Building has a great Farmer's Market on Saturdays. It's not just produce. There are really really good food vendors. Just wander around and sample or get some breakfast/lunch. The Ferry Building itself is nice to visit too, but pricey.
Nestled in the Financial District is a little lane called Belden Alley, officially it's called Belden Place. It's closed to traffic and the restaurants have outdoor eating patios. This place can be a bit hard to find. One end is on Pine, in between Kearny and Montgomery. There's a few great restaurants here: Brindisi (Sicilian-Italian), B44 (Spanish, think paella & arroz negro), Plouf (specializing in mussels), Cafe Bastille (French). There are more, but these are the ones that I love.
One street over from Belden Alley, on Kearny, is Paladar. Small, but great Cuban resto.
If you want really good Chinese, go to Henry's Hunan. They have several locations scattered around the downtown area. They have a unique smoked ham and string bean dish that I have WEEKLY (because it's that good). Their kung pao is probably one of the best kung pao that I've ever tasted. Go early or off peak, because by 11:45am every weekday, the restaurants get packed.
Of course, check out Chinatown and the Mission District (for Mexican food).

I do not know if this is a foodie or touristy destination, but at the Fisherman's Wharf, I love the sandwiches at Boudin. Their sourdough bread is incredible... and they're huge.

Molinari's deli in North Beach. The sandwiches are high-quality, yet reasonably priced.
Fiddler's Green for great Irish pub food.
The Italian French Baking Compay at 1501 Grant in North Beach has the best macaroons ever. The building is old, and their ovens are from 1929. The baker who was working the day we went offered us a tour of the back, and it was amazing. Just down the street, there's a little coffee shop in the corner called Cafe Trieste. It's family owned, and they roast their own stuff and sell it in a little shop next door. We ran into the owner, Papa Gianni, and he's quite entertaining. No, really, he sings Itailian love songs and even has a CD.
Don't miss the ferry terminal. The Farmer's Market meets on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but the permanent vendors are really great.

L'Osteria del Forno is the best Italian food in North Beach. Expect to wait though. The Nob Hill Cafe always delivers a good meal and is along a cable car line. Head out to the Richmond for dim sum and sushi. If you're here on a Thursday or Saturday, hit up Mission Street Food. If you like street food, head to the Mission at night. Generally speaking, avoid restuarants at Fisherman's Wharf. All overpriced and not the city's best food.

Great pizza place
And in case you are also looking for thnigs to do other than food, I wrote about what I did in San Francisco here, here and here (everything from museums to Napa Valley to where to have dinner. And of course the fabulous farmer's market.
Hope this helps! Have a great time!
