Food Quiz

Last week a woman I work with who is my age (AARP eligible) showed me a label from a cake container and asked me to pronounce a word and tell her what it was. It was "ganache."

I explained ganache and went on to tell her about chocolate truffles.

The poor dear has been avoiding ganache her entire adult life because she thought it was the shiny fruit in fruitcake. Her daughter shared some of a ganache cake bought at WalMart, of all places, and Betsy didn't want to touch it until her daughter swore to God that there was no shiny fruit in it.

Just thought I'd pass along this little quiz that is in today's Chicago Tribune. The first question is about ganache.

Shiny fruit.... LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took it and scored a 100 percent. The only two I really weren't sure about were sushi-related (and I don't eat sushi), but I guessed right. Thanks, SE - I learned a lot of this stuff because of you!

I got three wrong and I belong to AARP ! lol

I only got three wrong, and they were all French-related, which make sense, since I rarely eat or cook French food, I suppose. :) But, I definitely learned something!

Fruitcake? Oh, dear. But that must happen a lot. In fact, when I was a server for an Italian restuarant we would get confused customers all the time and have to explain different ingredients. I will never forget the time when one guy ordered a Rose wine and thought that that meant "red" and was so upset at me for that mistake that he started to yell at me, because he swore that he was right! Poor guy.

Well, I just took the quiz and I got one question wrong, the one about Cavolo Nero. I love quizes. Like way too much.

I got the Cavolo Nero one wrong too Chisai....BOO!!!! : )

Easy peasy. 100%. I might not have done so well if the choices for answers weren't repeated. I didn't know what Cavolo Nero was, either, but was able to deduce from the options given. And because I totally rock.

Only missed the fleur de sel question. Definitely had to guess on a few others, but it wasn't that hard given that they seemed to just recycle answer choices from one question to the next.

100% Yay! I should have BF take it. He already complains that he now knows entirely more than he thinks he ought about food because of me. Heh.

I'm AARP eligible too,and got one wrong. What the hell is "frisee"?...lmao

25/25... and I'm only 15

100% Would've definitely gotten a few wrong if not for the repeat answers though (Cavalo Nero, geoduck, a couple others).

96%! i'll take it!

i feel so stupid - i got 5 wrong. they were all the french guys too. i'm so ashamed!

I got them all right! Woo hoo! I just became AARP eligible this year and joined. I don't care where a discount originates, just so I get it.

And... Question #7 is... ME!

Yea, 100%!

I love foodie quizzes - can u post more?

100% :-) Helps a lot that I'm good with languages, though...and, as @Kerosena said, it helped that they repeated some answers, which made process of elimination much easier. Fun!

96% - instant self-esteem booster. Thank you Chicago!

I got 100% but that was really a poorly designed test.

I got 100% and agree that the matching format made answering a lot easier.

100% too.... and the 2 I did not know, I figured out at the end by process of elimination.

@kerosena, same here. powers of deduction.

frisee. when you hear it, what does it sound like? to me, frizzy hair. to look thin, wild, and curly. http://www.radicchio.com/Collections/frisee-salads.html

I'm 100% sure I could get 99% of the questions right 98% of the time.

100% but I'm with Kerosena.... could've been much harder. :)

@betteirene - cool post :D

hmm....i got three wrong (mixed them up)
oh wells, I'm sure if I took my time I might have been better.

*I'm embarassed next to you peeps!*

Hey SE: This was actually kinda fun! Feel like taking on a similar project?

Are those that didn't get 100% just not posting their scores? Haha. I got 23/25...I'll admit it. I got geoduck and tostones wrong....oops. This was fun though - thanks! It's great for weekly Food Vocab bit on Chew on That as well. Post any words you had a hard time with!

Hillary
Chew on That

I missed two, carpaccio and roulade. Oh well. :)

I'm late responding, but I got 100%. I admit to guessing on about 2 of them, but the rest I breezed through. I'm kind of proud of myself.

I got 100 percent ... and I don't eat most of the things on the list. I did go back and change a few answers, though. It would have been harder if the answers didn't repeat themselves.
