Food Ingredient Superlatives
I'm wondering who out there has one or two food ingredients in their arsenal (available in NYC) that they can't live without. Like the best ingredient you own that has changed your life. Mine probably is Dean & Deluca's Truffle Salt.

fruit concentrates from the health food store, i love putting them in a glass of water or seltzer -- or in a vodka cocktail... sometimes i'll add them to salad dressing (esp. pomegranate) ... right now my flavors are cherry and blueberry.... i also add them to my homemade fruit sorbets.... they pack a lot of flavor, and not a lot of sugar...

Oatmeal. You can make into plain oatmeal for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack, use it for filling meatballs out, or meatloaf for that matter, use it for yeast and quick breads, biscuits, pie crusts, oatmeal cookies (with raisins!) and all kinds of other things. I have even added it to stews and soups to make them thicker and have more filling.
Is there anything that oatmeal can't do? :)

Garlic, onions and miso paste. The miso paste is a new addition to my kitchen and I can't believe how I lived without it.

Sriracha...I haven't found anything yet that doesn't taste good with it.

@Ortolan: are those different/taste better than the ones at Yuno's? That's if you've had Yuno's.
@Traveller: have you seen this website? http://www.katheats.com/kaths-tribute-to-oatmeal/
@prodcestories: Do you get yours from a farm or a store?
QueenAlli at 3:21PM on 08/01/09
@QueenAlli - I've had both, and Yuno's are my favorite. As for the butter, I have my sources, and that's all I can really say about that.

Love that grade B maple syrup. On the other hand, I couldn't live without garlic and pepper flakes. And salt. And butter. And dried porcini mushrooms. Also white truffle oil. I think I'd better stop because the list is getting too long!

I didn't know Yuno's know carries araucana eggs, QueenAlli. Thanks! I was so broken hearted when they stopped selling at Lincoln Center on Saturdays last year.
Producestories, I tried to get access to raw milk and butter through the Weston Ford foundation but it was so mysterious and difficult I gave up.

@Ortolan: I wasn't saying that Yuno's sells araucana eggs I was just asking if they taste better than the ones mentioned by another poster. I'm a little clueless when it comes to this stuff so I wouldn't know an araucana egg if I saw one. I just want the best tasting egg.
If someone else can verify whether or not Yuno's sells araucana eggs....?
