Food for thought - Have you or would you eat brains and eggs?

My mother, a home economics major at Georgia State Teachers College, made this breakfast dish frequently when I was a child. Haven't had in years but loved it back in the day. Are there any other brain eaters out there or is it just too bizarre to consider?

I've eaten fish brains w/o a problem when I ate fish head soup.

As for cow, pig, etc. I'd check it out at least once, but it depends on what else it's cooked with. If it has raw onions, garlic, and cilantro, I would pass...at least for a different preparation.

When I lived in Brazil as a kid they served grilled chicken heart in a lot of places, I never tried it until some of my friends told me it was the best piece of chicken I would ever have. I tried it and it was delicious!

This being said, yes I would try brains, but I've never been presented the opportunity before.

It's a great combo. Scrambled some eggs the other day to go with a can of pork brains ('in milk gravy'). It was tasty!
Would definitely eat again.

Hell to the nawwww. But I'm not very adventurous with animal protiens. I don't like the strange (to me) textures of things like brains - blerrrg.

I hate to mention the whole mad cow thing, but that turns me off to brain. If it was organic, then maybe.

For the first 22 years of my life my father would cook Pinkelwurst, the 23rd year I asked him what it was.....BRAIN SAUSAGE

It's tasty tho...I believe it was pork.
I have a hard time with eggs tho...unless its caviar :D

Again, @poultrygeist, not even if my name was Jethro Bodine and I couldn't make up my mind to be a Soda Jerk or a Neurosurgeon!

Get real!! lol

You can get canned pig brains!?!?! Where?
I've never tried brains of any kind, but I'm open to it. My personal philosophy is if I'm not going to be a vegetarian, I have to be open to trying any part of the animal.

I've been curious about brains ever since I read about it in Oishinbo long time ago. I'd eat it if I get a chance, but I want the animal of origin to be healthy and young.

oh yeah, been eating them since I was a tot. In Egypt, my parents used to eat fried brain sandwiches as the local fast food. Not gonna lie though, the first time I had them, I was misinformed about what they were, cleaned my plate, and then was told....still pretty good once you get over the texture.

Yikes I didn't bother to read the can re: cholesterol levels.
1170% recommended daily intake!

My grandmother occasionally made the most delicious Greek "keftethes" -- Greek meat patties usually made with ground beef and flavored with fresh mint -- with brains. So good! I have tried to recreate them but they just don't quite come up to the standard my food memory has set for them.

@yayfood - i would still caution you against organic brains. Even wild deer test positive. Younger animals are safer (i.e. eat lamb brains, not sheep older than 1 yr) and do a little research. I assume most people are not willing to harvest a brain on their own so if it's being served its probably fine.

Brains are as wonderful as they are polarizing. Not too many folks in between love and hate - the hardest part is getting people to try it.
