just a salad and some crusty bread

Hi Jennifer. Welcome to Serious Eats. I noticed that you have asked about what to serve with spaghetti and a casserole. What type of spaghetti dish will you be preparing? What type of casserole?

spaghetti and meat balls. and i have serval casserole recipies tater tot, dorito, king ranch, chicken. i have hard time picking sides anyways.

For the casseroles- serve a steamed vegetable or vegeatable medley, a salad lettuce or dressed cucumber and tomato slices, hot bread (rolls, garlic bread, bagutte, bread sticks) fresh fruit and cookies for dessert.

Spaghetti and meatballs-
Start with a light soup or salad, serve the meatballs and spaghetti, and a marinated vegetable dish or some cheeses and fruit, crush some biscotti over ice cream for dessert.

goodcooker is right on the money!

Depending on the casserole your going to make out of the ones you are planning to make if you stick with spaghetti then I would say a crips salad with a good Italian garlic bread or warmed Italian bread to dip into the sauce. Then I would make a cold crisp lettuce salad. Chicken cass I would make steamed broc or a veggie medley. Tater tot I would do a tomato salad, dorito a Mexican slaw, and king ranch I don't know what that is?

to me a salad or some steamed veggies with a dressing are enough sides for a casserole or a pasta dish.

I generally like something green with casserole: salad, or steamed broccoli, or maybe some spinach. For King Ranch, I would also like some corn, off the cob, although I know it's not the most nutritionally balanced meal.

Spaghetti and meatballs is not a casserole unless you bake it.
Did I read tater tot and dorito mentioned in the same post with Pasta.
We been had.

i look at it as being balanced. what food group is missing? you need veggies, then thats your side. need some dairy, then maybe cheeses or yogurt. everything soft and squishy, add something crisp or crunchy.

@jerzeetomato, i figure i have no friggin clue what she is talking about there... maybe she will give us these recipes... (?)

@jeerze- or it is BBBBAAAACCCCKKKKKKK!!

It could be back it said before it could never be stopped. Unless it had to climb a flight of stairs or perhaps be lucid LOL.

Put me down for those "round out the meal" components like salad and crusty bread. That's really about it.

Yep, I agree - salad or veggies (steamed broccoli or green beans) and a good crusty bread (like a baguette).
