I like Pera. I ended up eating there twice during last year's Summer Restaurant Week. I also like Artisanal for Restaurant Week.

not Matsuri, avoid that place, poor service, boring drinks and the restaurant week menu was bland. Even though we only spent $35 on a three course menu, I still felt ripped off.

bondst is great. not a lot of selection but definitely a lot of really good food (the menu is on www.nycgo.com). also, they ran out of one of the desserts so they let us choose one off the menu.

The really good places are either not participating fully this year (Gramercy Tavern is one of them) or are already fully booked (Bar Room at the Modern)...
I have been hearing positive feedback from people who visited Park Avenue Summer and Locanda Verde, and Alto and Convivo seem to be favorites as well.
You might get more responses from Chowhound on this query as it is a higher traffic message board:

I had a delicious lunch at Locanda Verde on Monday. No special RW menu. They offer their usual lunch menu, and you can order from it -- an antipasto, something from either the pasta or secondi lists, and a dessert (gelato or sorbetto) for $24.
The setting, with doors and windows thrown open, and a breeze coming in from the Hudson was lovely.

Actually, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, and Union Square Cafe ARE doing what is essentially their own Restaurant Week. They're only doing lunch and for every diner's meal, $1 will be donated to City Harvest.
Also, it's only one restaurant for a week, schedule below:
July 13-17 Gramercy Tavern
July 20-24 Union Square Cafe
July 27-31 EMP

I went to Morimoto for lunch & I know that ordering sea bass is not politically correct, but daxx that dish was amazing - and for $24.07 with an appetizer and dessert - it was a bargain!

I have to say, Asia de Cuba gives you a real portion for your money. The food is awesome, the atmosphere matches, and I went there last year and was treated like an actual customer, rather than a budget-swine coming to feed.

I'm headed to Tabla tomorrow. I'm also targeting some favorites that have had good Restaurant Week menus in the past - Capsuoto Freres in Soho, Gotham near Union Square, Molyvos & Remi in Midtown. I'm also going to check out Nobu's and The Palm's menus, which are not online.

I went to David Burke Townhouse and everything was delicious! I would definitely recommend it.

I ate at Pera during the last restaurant week - the food was good, but the service was the worst I had ever experienced. First off, I had to specifically ask for a restuarant week menu (I'm from Philly, where restaurant week is prided and menu is readily available). We were given our menus from a very disgusted waitress (she seemed to frown upon the fact that we were out for a deal). We ordered two bottles of wine throughout the course of our meal (for four people), we asked for tap water, but were charged almost $40 for bottled water that the waitress kept refilling in our cups - despite the fact that we did not want it. And to top it all off, we were told off the bat that the food included on the restaurant week menu would not be enough to fill us, so we needed to order multiple sides to make the meal worthwhile. We ended up spending WAY more money than expected for ok food and horrible service.
Like I said, I'm from Philly and we enjoy restaurant week every time it comes around. NYC should take a lesson - in Philly, we've never spent more than the cost of four meals, alcohol of choice, and tip - in NYC, we were WAY overcharged for WATER, plus a bunch of 'extras' needed to make a complete meal.

Jackgib: I have to say that I'm very surpised by this. I've been to Pera twice during Restaurant Week and have never encountered the horrible service that you've mentioned. I agree, you have to ask for the Restaurant Week menu, but that happens at most of the places I've gone during NYC Restaurant Week. I think you got a horrible waitress that wasn't representative of the place. I also have to say that the portions were generous both times I went, and I'm not exactly a light eater -- there was no need to purchase any extra food.
The water issue is something that should have been argued about ...there is no reason to pay for a server's mistake. If you had refused to pay the charge for it, they most likely would have taken it off the bill.
I would say that if you want to avoid bad service, avoid Delmonico's at all costs! I wanted to try the historic place during Restaurant Week a few years ago. They were horrible, and the food wasn't good, except for the cheesecake (which was from Junior's).
