best seattle eats?

I live in Vancouver and try to go to Seattle a few times a year since I LOVE eating there. My highlights? Amandines at Bakery Nouveau and anything at La Carta de Oaxaca. I've also been known to eat both the coconut cream pie and creme caramel for dessert at Dahlia.

The hubbie and I are going down again in early August. What are your "must eat" recommendations?

Salumi for lunch (it's only open from 11-4). Be first in line at 11 so that you can get a table.

It's owned by Mario Batali's dad, his sister helps run it and his mom sometimes cooks. It's on Tony Bourdain's bucket list of places to eat.

I like it a lot, too. Don't worry if you're not a big fan of cured meat--there's other stuff on the menu that's also wonderful. Find out when Mrs. Batali is making gnocchi (I think it's Mondays).

I've been meaning to check that place out for years!! Always go when it's closed. I'll put that on my list for sure!!!

There's a thread on this from last year which I started - lots of great reccs including Quinn's Pub which was AMAZING. When are you going? The blogger Orangette's about to open a pizza place called Delancey, I'm sure it will be delicious.

Gotta check out quinn's pub, the menu looks amazing! What did you eat there?

I'm going first or second week of august. I don't think Delancey will be open yet. Just checked out their twitter page yesterday and it looks a few months away still.

Steelhead Diner right by Pike's Place Market...delicious!

La Pichet for a french style breakfast, or even better, for dinner. You must have the roast chicken!

if you like chocolate, then you must hit up rose's chocolate treasures. don't let the fact that it's in pike's market deter you. they are beyond wonderful.

Roxy's is amazing the is so very good. Their breakfast's you can get a zillion things there, everything is fresh, it's great, homemade bagels, corned beef, ect. Here is a place that has no seatting but if you go on a nice sunny day to the one in Shilshole right down the road is
Golden Gardens park where you could have a great picnic and look out of the beautiful view of Puget Sound, the place is called Paesos, The have one in Fremont as well, all in all best sandwich ever had, they have an assorment of things there but I go for the Midnight Cuban. another breakfast place is called Voula's Cafe, they have great breakfsts among other things.

add a second of Steelhead Diner - probably one of the best meals I've had in Seattle. Unfortunately, can't really remember some of the other places I've been too. But I go every year, so looking forward to some new recs.

How did I forget Quinn's? Love it there. We've been there twice. We used to take the visiting tourists to Ivar's Sunday buffet, but now we only do Quinn's. I've never been to Steelhead, but you talked me into it.

@gastronomeg, you're so right about Rose's. I live an hour south of Seattle and go there for events probably 10 or 12 times a year, not counting the tourist stuff when the IL relativesand friends show up. But sometimes, if I have a quick errand, I'll sneak into Pike Place for an oily bag of hot cinnamon donuts (I wish I owned that concession) for breakfast, do what I have to do, then pop back in on the way home. I graze, then stock my larder. There's a dairy vendor that always has double Devon cream and I stop at the spice market for some oddball blends to try.

This is my current hit list. *'d places are highly recc'd.
I'm also gonna put in another vote for Quinn's, a vote for Skillet Street Food (I worked there for a bit), and one for Taste at the Seattle Art Museum, where I currently cook.

i'd add matt's in the market for dinner,

I almost forgot Pink Door - it's hard to find, but worth it once you are there.

Yeah, yeah, the market. Every time a post comes up asking for good eats in the 206, restaurants in the market always get the highest praise. While we all love the market, and it's a must stop place for visitors, there is much more to be had in the city!!
