ooo - tough area for cheap eats!

you can get a delicious hamburger for like $6 at the burger joint in the parker meridien...

Did you check out Midtown Lunch for suggestions? Anything I can think of is not super cheap

I think there's a good cart on 56th and 6th

There's food cart on 62nd between Madison Ave. and 5th Ave. that's popular with the Barneys employees. I think the specialty is a gyro and mozzarella sandwich.

Street meat! Look for a halal cart with that incredible smell. Be sure to get the white sauce AND the hot sauce. My favorite is chicken with salad. My son loves the Lamb and Rice plate.

there's a five guys burger on 55th street between 5th and 6th avenue.

there's also fika - an espresso place on 58th street between 5th and 6th that also serves sandwiches, salads, and entrees...

Unfortunately Burger Joint has upped their prices...$7 for a burger $7.50 for a cheeseburger... still its an awesome burger. Burgers at Pop Burger (which is right at 58th and 5th) are $6.75. Fika is also pretty pricey ($8-10 for sandwiches)

I work at 59th and lex and know there isnt much over here. If you are willing to walk for it there is a Chinese Place with a great lunch special at 59th and 3rd. Its called the New Hong Wing or something like that (it changed names-from Asian Dragon- last week)

Also, right down from the Five Guys there are 2 good places..one called called Cer Te which is sort of gourmet sandwiches and another called Tuscany which is Italian take-out but really well priced for the area.

Carnegie John's cart is on the south west corner of Carnegie Hall.
