wisdom teeth out this morning: food suggestions?

I'm already sick of pudding, yogurt, applesauce, etc. Anything more filling and perhaps more gourmet you could suggest? Thanks!

type "wisdom teeth" in the search box above.

We just got fresh peaches at the store that were quite soft and juicy... something like that? I agree that applesauce can get tiresome, maybe add some berries to the puree so it tastes different? And popsicles are always a great post surgery food.

Also, when I got mine out I was told not to eat yogurt at all. I looked it up online and saw nothing about that though.

Do you have a blender, food processor? When I had mine out I lived on smoothies and milk shakes. Whatever fruit looked good I would purchase and throw into the blender with whatever ice cream I purchased(lots of pain killers lead to some creative flavors)

oww-when my son had his out he lived on mashed potatoes and gravy (not too hot) and old fashioned tuna casserole-just remember not to use straws for the smoothies!!

steer clear of anything with tomatoes or tomato sauce! i learned the hard way just how acidic tomatoes are. if you feel like you need something starchy and more filling, try some mac and cheese or risotto. those are usually pretty soft.

how about some very soft cooked scrambled eggs with a little cheese melted in them?

Ohhh I am sorry I had mine out last summer. I liked shakes and smoothies. All kinds of clear broth type soups I like egg drop soup, or tomato soup (Campbell's was my choice cause it is smooth). Mashed potatoes and gravy. Good luck.

I never had my wisdom teeth taken out so I don't know if this would work but how about lentils (esp. red ones - they turn to mush if you cook them long enough)?

Or you could make a vegetable or fruit soup - served either chilled or hot?

Just posted last week about this:

Hope you get better soon! I just got off my pain meds yesterday =P.

Cream of potato soup with lots of bacon--creamy, smokey, filling and tasty. Also, on the same note, how's about a cheddar ale soup? Creamy cheese and beer--how can you go wrong? And to end on that soup note, my husband's all time favorite, French Onion Soup--use croutons instead of a baguette slice on top and the croutons and cheese will melt into the soup in a much softer consistency.

Steer clear of anything with seeds...I learned that the hard way. Good luck!

You probably want to stay away from anything with little tiny bits that could get stuck in those "where my teeth used to be" holes. Not fun to clean out, speaking from experience.
any soup that's not too acidic would be great, could make some pea soup from the bag of frozen peas you're probably holding to your jaw, lol!
hummus with maybe some very soft bread to start, and work your way up to pitas? baked potatoes are actually reasonablly easy to eat and they counteract that feeling of being on a liquid diet. any soft/tender baked product should be fine... just kinda smoosh it in your mouth. Pancakes, french toast, bread pudding?
from what i remember (and I def took advantage of the painkillers so it's a little fuzzy) the serious food issues only lasted about a week... I distinctly remember chewing eensy-weensy bits of steak with my front teeth the next weekend.

Dont eat yogurt, the cultures are bad for healing.

Oh gosh... Ice Cream Ice Cream Ice Cream! Seriously.. The cold helps with the swelling and it was about the only thing I could eat. I got mine out right before Christmas and tried to gnaw on christmas ham... but then I was picking out pieces of ham out of the teeth sockets...

I loved the excuse to eat nothing but ice cream... so go ahead... splurge on all sorts of flavors! (just nothing with small candy pieces...)

Simple omelets (cheese, chives, nothing too chuncky or astringent)
Soft boiled or scrambled eggs
Souffle if you're up whipping one up.
Egg salad
Fritatta or crustless quiche
Cheese blintzes
Cottage cheese with soft fruits, cut small (canned peaches. etc.)
Mashed potatoes with gravy.
Baked sweet potatoes. (mashed up)
Tamales
Smoothies.
Ripe banana cut into small pieces (with a little honey and cream)
Greek yougurt with honey
Saute'd zucchini over small pastas (orzo, etc.). Cook the pasta in broth or stock for added flavor. Add a splash of wine. Sprinkle some parmesan on top.
Pasta with garlic, ricotta cheese and vegetables cooked very soft.
Baked tilapia or other soft fleshed fish.
Poached salmon
Soft cheese spreads with very finely pureed vegetables and garlic blended in. Mix with rice, small pasta or serve on soft bread.
Cream of wheat
Polenta
Grits
Smooth peanut butter on soft bread or in a dipping sauce
Pate

Jello (I know...but it will taste good for now and feels cool in your mouth)
Popsicles

Stick with pureed soups until you can close your swollen jaws. You have my sympathy.

Like everyone else has mentioned-- Stay away from acids (tomatoes, oranges), seeds (sesame, popcorn, strawberries, rasberries), crusty breads, etc. Nothing too hot (temp. wise). Warm is not the best, best it's much easier for your gum pain. (Learned the hard way- yikes)

Make yourself a super soft (therefore slightly overcooked) macaroni and cheese! I lived on mac and cheese during my wisdom teeth recovery.

Chew on That

I ate lo mein the day I had my wisdom teeth out, after the gas had worn off. Then I had a Percocet and couldn't eat anything but jello for days.

There's a market nearby that just takes a ton of veggies and herbs and boils them down a bit, and blends the heck out of it. If you can think of a veg, it's in there, along with some apples and mint. Reeaally good.

Avoid caffeine and anything with *particles*.

don't use a straw! dry sockets are terrifyingly bad.

i stuck to a popsicle diet after my extraction.

wow, thanks everyone! yesterday was pretty bad, I could only down a Mango smoothie my mom bought me from Trader Joes, but today only half of my face is still horribly swollen so I think I'll be able to take some of your suggestions! thanks a bunch, it's so great knowing there's a whole online community here to support you. =)

i tried to eat mac & cheese. i popped stiches trying to chew. not a good thing. anything cold will help with the swelling and pain. stay away from grilled cheese also. not pretty.

Wow, I must have been lucky when I had mine out a million years ago. After the happy pills wore off that day, I ate scrambled eggs, but the next day the only problem was that I couldn't open my mouth very far. Apparently a jaw muscle had been wounded during the procedure. I can remember trying to eat a sandwich, but I couldn't get my mouth open that far, so I had to flatten it.

@katydid, where did you come up with yogurt cultures being bad for healing? everything I find for wisdom teeth removal encourages it to prevent nausea.
