What's your favorite kind of meat?
What is it?
Pork? Bacon? Sausage? Ham? Bologna? Steak? Chicken? Lamb? Muskrat? Beef?
My personal fave is defenantly sausage. I like to bite into hot steamy sausage in the morning, but that might just be me.

A fine topic, I would have to say that pork is my favorite beef-- to feed to my pet mole rat.

I am beguiled to hear that Bagel! I've had some pretty bizzare pets, but not a mole rat.
lordhelmet at 2:12PM on 06/03/09
I pity you.

Lamb, and beef (well-marbled cuts like the rib-eye, or even something more low-brow and fatty), preferably with a bone attached.
Yep, I'm a total carnivore. Move over Fred Flintstone - you got nothin' on me!
Cheers,
~ Paula

You two up there...stop it! : )
I say YES to all of the above.
arm1970 at 3:13PM on 06/03/09
I'm a meatatarian - gimme beef anyday!
TaraTot at 3:18PM on 06/03/09
If i had to digest only one land based meat it would be rabbit. Turtle is also very good. You can catch both around here easily. I love love love rabbit all braised up.
seikel at 3:19PM on 06/03/09
@lordhelmet....sausage? That could include multiple meats...poultry, fish...
For me Pork tops the list.
derosa at 3:21PM on 06/03/09
Lamb... not a big fan of beef or pork but lamb (and sometimes chicken, if I'm in the mood) is divine!
sbelle at 3:27PM on 06/03/09
Lamb. Preferably chops on the grill, with oregano, S & P. No mint jelly for smallkitchen, thankyouverymuch.
smallkitchen at 3:40PM on 06/03/09
Beef!....no, wait, Lamb!....no,no,no, pork! They have turducken, how about a cowlambork?

I would have to say pork as a whole would be my favorite, and more specifically I would say bacon. Although I'm from Texas and love a good beef burger or smoked brisket, pork is tops for me. Also, I was introduced to bison burgers several months ago and I actually find that taste to be superior to beef.
iwanttobeachef at 4:18PM on 06/03/09
lol CARY.
I'm starting to feel really guilty about eating animals lately - maybe it's just a phase. Cause I LOVE BEEF!
mrstkach at 4:55PM on 06/03/09
I eat chicken, in its various forms, more than any other meat and would probably stay with it if I could only have one form for the rest of my life. I eat a lot of pork and very little beef. I try to work fish in at least once a week. I'd eat more organ meat if given free reign...
If the question is, what is the true love of my life and what do I want for my next birthday dinner, I'd have to say a big well marbled, sparsely trimmed beef rib steak...
czken at 4:57PM on 06/03/09
Lamb is good. (Reading people's replies and seeing lamb is popular, but does anyone actually like mutton? I'm not sure I've ever encountered anyone who claimed to like mutton more than lamb). If it's getting ground and being made into a burger, I'll take bison. I like steak too, but I'm a weird person who likes lean cuts...eye of round > all other parts of cow. And I'm not sure if we're talking strictly meat or any animal worth eating, but I love pretty much any kind of seafood and most fish.
cycorider at 5:12PM on 06/03/09
I have to choose?
Okay, then...land = goat. There is just something so inherently flavorful and underestimated about it that I love.
sea = shrimp. Enough said.
air = Turkey. Okay, they don't really fly, but they are really flavorful and the wild ones have a nice gamey taste to them that you just can't find elsewhere.
Traveller at 5:28PM on 06/03/09
What a relief to read comments from folks who like meat! I was beginning to think I was the last carnivore. I'm not greedy about it. Once or twice a week and I love lamb, beef and pork. I try to get island grown so no antibiotics and junk in it but we eat mostly chicken and ground turkey because most of the rest (and one particularly vocal) of the family doesn't eat meat, as such. I'm getting cheekier about doing more beef, etc and fix him a salmon burger or vegie burger or something. I am traveling across the island tomorrow for island grown lamb.
kauairosina at 5:41PM on 06/03/09
I feel lame for saying chicken, but I love it in so many ways! I also love pork, but it has to be cooked well, so I usually opt for chicken. Same goes for beef....in all its forms.
embolini9 at 5:41PM on 06/03/09
I'll go with the cowlambork. :-)
dbcurrie at 5:43PM on 06/03/09
We only eat it once every 2 weeks but, God, we love red meat. Rib Eyes, Pot Roast, meatloaf, bacon cheeseburgers, london broil, meatballs...you name it. Other than that it's really chicken (a tasteless subst. Really must try air chilled from Whole Foods), salmon, shrimp. pollack, tilapia,
tuna steaks and every now and then pork and lamb.
bessfour at 5:58PM on 06/03/09
Fillet Mignon, medium rare, with baked potato and asparagus.London Broil is also what I like. Though I eat meat occasionally only. Major part of my diet is fruit, vegetables, whole grains and nuts. Like to keep those antioxidant levels up.
anotherbaker at 6:52PM on 06/03/09
Double cut Lamb Chops grilled with only Lawrys seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder and paprika........and a simple baked potato with butter and salt.
dozertx at 7:23PM on 06/03/09
GO MEAT!
izatryt at 7:28PM on 06/03/09
95% vegetarian...I like pork, but as a condiment vs. a main dish. If I'm eating a hunk of meat it's going to be grassfed beef - a juicy med-rare burger or a rare steak.
producestories at 9:15PM on 06/03/09
Got to be piggy. Whether that's bacon, pork belly, sausages...what an animal!!
juniper77 at 7:47AM on 06/04/09
I've gotta be the oddball again I guess but since I'm so good at it, I would have to say elk, or even venison. For some reason my body wont digest beef properly and rarely if ever pork, but game I dont seem to have the same problems with.
huneybumper at 7:56AM on 06/04/09
My husband :-P
finewinendine at 8:28AM on 06/04/09
I don't think there is a type of meat I don't like but when push comes to shove I always like a nice rib eye steak or a strip steak. And often times I find there's nothing that a good fresh made grilled burger can't fix.
joeqboo at 10:22AM on 06/04/09
Cow, Pig, Chicken, Elk, moose, venison, partridge you name it...Ill eat it!!
Maine Moose at 11:00AM on 06/04/09
i love meat, particularly bacon and steak. praise the lard!
gastronomeg at 11:06AM on 06/04/09
Tough question, I would have to say a toss up between poultry and pork.
pjracz10 at 12:33PM on 06/04/09
I think you'd find So Good's Meat Madness tournamententertaining: bacon won.
My favorite however is probably straight up filet mignon steak or skirt steak. Yummmmy.

@cycorider, I wanted to try mutton, but couldn't find it anywhere. I even tried to convince a woman who raises sheep (and sells lambs) to sell me one old enough to be considered mutton, but she wouldn't. Even though she had too many that she should have sold as lambs, she wouldn't sell an older one for some reason.
One of these days, I will be at a store in or in a country where mutton is commonly available, and I'll give it a try.
dbcurrie at 6:06PM on 06/04/09
@Hillary, oh man I just looked at that bracket and it made me hungry. I want everything in the seafood region...and then half the red meat region. I'm sad that bacon won though...that's probably in my bottom 5 out of all the meats in that tourney. :-(
cycorider at 7:00PM on 06/04/09
Salmon. And yes, it IS meat, if it came off of an animal.
buffy at 7:24PM on 06/04/09
Being named lordhelmet and saying "I like to bite into hot steamy sausage in the morning" almost made me spew out my water. :P
As for a favorite meat, I'd have to say beef. We eat beef 7 days a week - ground, chopped, sliced, slivered, roasted, raw, fried, stewed, grilled, in soup, sauce, sandwich, in the winter, spring, summer, and autumn, and so on...
I can't decide on a favorite cut.
Cassaendra at 8:22PM on 06/04/09
GO MEAT! I love all meats with the exception of veal...I'm a total hypocrite, I loooove lamb but cannot bring myself to eat veal...I don't know why...
sammie at 1:12PM on 06/05/09
yeah i'm going to go pork on this one, beef a close second. but i really love rabbit, wish i could get more of it.
z911empire at 4:46PM on 06/05/09
Definitely a burger, medium rare, is my favorite kind of meat. If you would've asked this two years ago I would have been shocked by my answer, but tastes change, I guess. I blame my husband, whose motto is, "If it moved, I eat it." (Oh, to go with my favorite meat, a slice of American).
JustNancy at 4:59PM on 06/05/09
The animal kind.
hungrychristel at 5:47PM on 06/05/09
Sorry guys, but lamb is gross. And who are you Thumper-eating freakies? Eeek!
Of COURSE bacon is the best.
TheKitchenWitch at 6:24PM on 06/05/09
Muskrat? Been reading the old Joy of Cooking lately? :D
Favorite meat is like favorite dessert - a mood-driven choice. There are times I need beef (takes a while to digest) and times I need chicken (a bit lighter in texture). Lamb is a must on some holidays. And yes, there are times I crave veal, political correctness be damned.
I couldn't whittle the choice down to just one type. For sure I won't eat rabbit. I had one as a pet in Brooklyn. My mother paper trained him and he had the run of the house. It would be like anyone else eating dog or cat.
therealchiffonade at 6:33AM on 06/06/09
I eat mostly chicken and fish but I love lamb now and again (especially lamb curry or lamb kebabs) and good Argentinian beef if I'm back home in the form of a traditional 'asado'. Otherwise, I don't care for beef at all. I'm not a fan of pork either, unless it's good Parma Ham or Jamón Ibérico. Roast duck and pheasant are great! We had those last Christmas in a red wine and plum sauce...yum!
