What did you eat tonight?

I'll start:

Thai Beef Salad
Stir-Fried Basil Tofu with Jasmine Rice

So fast and so good.

Attempted Luna Cafe Corn and Chipotle Soup....ummm, not so much. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I used frozen corn instead of fresh, but I was trying to use items I already had. So, hopped on the scooter with hubby and had a slice of veg pizza from the local joint and some beers. Tummy is happy!

Does anyone else do that? Attempt a recipe, have it fail, and then wind up going out for something easy? After something doesn't turn out, I often don't have the energy to try again, haha!

sorrel, spinach, and asparagus, then scrambled eggs and whole grain toast, all from the greenmarket.

I actually had leftovers from yesterday's dinner, which was this Serious Eats recipe:
http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2008/09/vegetarian-pasta-with-zucchini-and-beaten-egg-yolk-recipe.html
It did NOT taste as good on day two. You think that has something to do with the egg yolk?

@Erin, when screwing up a recipe, I don't try again either. I'm too grumpy and frustrated. After a blunder it's either takeout or sandwiches. I ALWAYS have sandwich stuff on hand because it's one of my favorite foods.

i'm having a late supper tonight: cheese grits. the grits are getting smooth and creamy on the stove, awaiting the cheddar. i can't wait!

Campbell's cream of mushroom, apple juice, water and tea - raging UTI...

Ate up some leftovers. I had a tupperware container of spinach and made a panini with left over homemade wheat bread with mozzarella and tomato. Really simple tonight, wasn't too hungry. Plus I had to leave room for the last slice of my strawberry rhubarb pie!

What we call "Tamari beef" - ground beef stir fried with sesame oil and tamari, with lots of mushrooms and some red onion. I usually serve it on steamed broccoli and quinoa. Its cheap enough, pretty easy, feeds The Boy, and reheats well!

I had a craving for mussels, so we had mussels with pesto and tomatoes, bread, roasted broccoli, and chocolate covered espresso beans for dessert. Yum!

gnocchi bolognese. i've been craving gnocchi and haven't been able to find good ones in my town, so i took matters into my own hands and now have a freezer full of them!

Pierogie filled with potato and grilled veggies on a bed of sauteed shredded cabbage and caraway, topped with black bean and orange salsa from Irregardless Cafe. Yum.

i should have eaten at your houses tonite! it all sounds pretty dang tasty.
my dinner was: a falafel sandwich at one of the farmer's markets in the area.... it was pretty good, i must say. lots of fresh stuff in it. i'd have it again.

i took tonight off, so it was camembert and apricot preserves on crackers.

homemade french dip sandwhiches on crusty hoagie rolls with vintage white cheddar. It was perfect! Its way too hot to be cooking a full meal!

Tuna salad sandwich and a side of mashed potatoes

My hubby and I grilled up some chicken in a spicy citrus marinade I tossed together, which we enjoyed with steamed artichokes and a spicy aioli. I popped open a bottle of Clos de Bois Chardonnay I had chilled to sip with it - nothing fancy.

I enjoyed a Lemon Sorbetto after that, and am now sipping on Pelegrino.

Have rediscovered Niman Ranch Applewood Smoked Bacon, so had it with wilted spinach, fresh tomatoes and lemon zest on perfectly baked potatoes.

Dessert was chocolate pudding from Trader Joe's and espresso made from Toscana beans from Counter Culture (the beans are so good, I have them shipped to me).

Both dessert and lattes were topped with a big spritz of whipped cream from our ISI whipped cream dispenser. Love that thing!

Smoked chicken chowder, a green salad and herbed garlic bread.

@Professor - Damn, I was having a craving for Pierogie yesterday. Weird. I had BBQ chicken with some melted cheddar on top and scallions and leftover corn pudding...and some naan bread. Made hubby his usual weeknight diet meal...grilled chicken, pinto beans, grilled zucchini.

I had leftovers of this soy/ginger glazed salmon and veg dish:

It was really easy to make the first time around (marinated two salmon filets in a mixture of soy sauce, hoisin, garlic, fresh ginger, and orange juice, then seared the fish and veg separately, whisked some cornstarch into the reserved marinade, and simmered it all together until the sauce thickened), and was just as tasty two days later.

I made a black bean and corn salad with spicy vinegrette and grilled kebobs for SO and I had 2 rice cakes with almond butter.

I baked some cod with a ritz cracker/butter/creole seasoning crumb topping, jasmine rice and salad. Simple weeknite meal that never fails to please everyone in the family.

Poached chicken, fried rice and tomato/herb salad.

We had oriental flank steak, fresh corn succatash with red pepper and onions, baby tomatoes, grilled with a herb crumb topping and baked potatoes - wish I could say we ate like that every night, but last night we had company! Oh yes, for "afters" we had delicious fresh fruit salad on angel cake with a dollop of cream.

Several samples of various Chilean wines, some crudite and few slices of cheese and bread at a wine tasting... then a bowl of chicken chili at David Burke and a few asiago truffle fries. I'll cook something on my own tonight, I promise!

As it was unexpectedly chilly and rainy yesterday, I made Brunswick stew out of the leftover roast chicken from dinner the night before--threw in some freezer items, some vegs, seasoned and was surprised at how tasty and easy.
For dessert, one ginormous Asian pear. Cool, crisp and juicy.

Went to Steak n Shake straight from work. Husband needed to be home and finished eating by 6:30 so he could have time to do some dailies and raid by 7:30. :P

When a portion of something I cook isn't perfect and it seems salvagable, I usually try to rework the saved parts into something different asap. If it's all wrecked, I toss it out and go out to eat; rarely, to the place where I got the idea to make the dish. It is usually to someplace diametrically opposite.

Shrimp scampi! Used frozen shrimp and it was a success (and it's still good as today's lunch!). @ChristineB: That looks delightful; I'll have to try it soon. And @Erinlovestoeat: Yes. ALL THE TIME. Well, not all the time, but more frequently than I'd like :-)

@Cassaendra - I dated a raider. Raids definitley interfere with meals.

whole wheat penne and asparagus tips in a goat cheese/lemon zest/olive oil sauce, with arugula wilted in.

what's a "raider?"

Last night we had the last of the Pho I had made earlier in the week. Man am I addicted to that stuff. Served with thinly sliced chicken (like what's used in chickensteak sandwiches), fresh cilantro and scallions, sambal oelek, and the boneless flanken boiled in the broth. Mmmmm. I think I might need to put in a running request for the butcher for bones.

I had baked chicken with rosemary and olive oil, brown rice, fresh corn on the cob (silver queen), and a carrot salad.

Mixed greens with red onion, walnuts and blue cheese with balsamic and olive oil.
Then I had a piece of leftover birthday cake made by my mom that I have been storing in the freezer. I actually like to eat it that way!

is a good example of what a raid is on World of Warcraft. :)

@ProfessorChaos: I've retired from raiding for several months now. I was a healing druid. I like the extra time away from the computer (what I sit in front of all day at work) and, most importantly, SLEEP!

I threw out my back yesterday (long story) and we went out. Tried a place we hadn't visited called Old Vinings Inn. They have a "bailout" menu with everything being $12.00. I scanned the whole menu and the dish that really caught my eye happened to be on the bailout menu - Blackened Pork Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Mash and Collard Greens. It was outstanding! Due to the low price, the portion was not ginormous - which was just fine with me. I comfortably finished the dish, didn't feel stuffed and enjoyed it very much. BF had grilled shrimp over grits with a tomato coulis - also excellent and also from the "bailout" menu.

My son and I were at the Yankee game today, and after the game we tried the Brownstone Diner in Jersey City,NJ, a place which has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the food network. Son had quite a combo, buffalo wings and choco chip pancakes. I had a fish fry panini. We were both very pleased with our selections
