Top Chef Masters...are you ready?

It starts tomorrow night on Bravo and is gonna be way more cool than the regular TC. Hubert Keller, Tim Love, Wylie Dufrensne and about 20 others. Watching these real chefs go at it for charity is going to rock! Only things missing are Padma and Tom. Seriously, fricking Kelly Choi? Ugh!

Yea, I know it's not going to be the same without Tom or Padma and let's face it, Top Chef has been losing steam for awhile BUT it is still something fun to watch and something I have been looking forward to for awhile. I am very excited!!

Why are Padma and Tom not on this one?

Eh, I am not that excited. For some reason, seeing already accomplished top chefs is not as fun as seeing some of the more up and coming ones fumble around. Isn't there going to be a normal Top Chef as well though? I thought this Uberchef version was a one-off.

Yes, for two reason:

1) I'm excited to see what will happen. Apparently it's a different format as well. Don't care much about Kelly Choi, but am excited for the chefs.

2) It beats the hell out of The Next Food Network Hack.

Contrary to the opinion quasi stated, I find that I am looking forward to TCM because the competitors are already established. I mean, they are successful already and to be at the point in their careers that they already are makes the fact that they can be made or broken in one competition and are judged by a panel makes it more interesting for me. I also want to see what kinds of mistakes these chefs are going to be called outon, being "old hats" in the kitchen.

I just saw in my TV listings that the first episode "kicks off with Hubert Keller, Christopher Lee, Michael Schow, and Tim Love." So I guess that means they're not all competing at the same time... Hmm. Don't know how I feel about that.

Looking forward to it. Hope it is a good show.

I'll miss seeing Tom as he is an accomplished Chef... as for Padma, she can kiss my ass sideways and take Gail with her as well! I love the idea for the TC Masters show, but the judges?! YOU GOTTA BE F!$#@*& KIDDING ME! I believe I read on the TC blog that one of the judges will be that guy from "flipping out".... seriously?! They couldn't have found yet more judges from the culinary world, food writers, or even lowly food critics? I hope I'm wrong, but I think I smell a let down coming.

Got the dvr set....

I'm so looking forward to it! Although if BangieB's comment is correct, I'm a little bummed.

Either way, I'd love to see the brains behind SE or any SE members make some predictions. I'm not that informed about of all of the chefs. I recognize several and could name quite a few, but in no way could i guess who's going to take home the prize.

I'm looking forward to it. I know it's not the same format, and that they'll have a bunch of masters per episode with the winners competing at the end of the season (at least that's the impression I get), but I'm hopeful. If only the dreamy Avec Eric were on it would be perfect..

From Eater SF:

"The first six episodes will consist of four chefs competing against each other to name one winner. The six winners of each episode will then meet up for the final four weeks when one person will get eliminated each episode until the finale where one winner is crowned Top Chef Master. The winning chef will receive $100,000 for the charity of their choice."

I won't be ready until Top Chef is on Hulu.... both Bravo and Hulu are owned by NBC, why can't they put Top Chef online? I don't have cable, but even when I did, I didn't get Bravo, for some ungodly reason.

Okay, Hubert Keller is my now my HERO!.

grumpy old man... i know, right?
i'm totally going to use that shower trick!

Here's a recap of the premiere episode of Top Chef that I did last night -

Given the overall charitable theme of Top Chef Masters, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that the show seems to be a lovefest for all involved. Judging from tonight’s premiere episode, the Top Chef spinoff supposedly pitting world renowned chefs against each other instead appears to be a hugs and kisses pep rally all around...

I watched Top Chef a few times prior to the contest. I decided that I did not like the soap opera grade horsehockey one bit and stopped watching it. This however, was very different. All the contestants were well established pro's who were big enough that they did not feel the need to be petty or mean. Come to that, being mean or petty will get you run off one of my jobs in a flash. That kind of crap is unnecessary and counterproductive.

Anyway, this was about the cooking by people who really know their business and who stay focused on their business and it was a pleasure to watch.

Notice that these guys stayed focused on their business? Think maybe that is why they are where they are now?

I'm a huge Hubert Keller fan now myself. Would LOVE to visit his restaurant! I mean that dessert alone was killer!

I like the drama on top chef... and miss it on top chef masters... and i miss padma & tom!!!
