Strawberry picking just outside of NYC?
With the season fast approaching, I have a craving to go strawberry picking this year. Does anyone know a good place to try? I live in Manhattan, but I have family and car access in Orange County (NY, of course) and Nassau (south shore).

i can vouch for greig farm in dutchess county.... but give them a call to make sure they're still doing pick your own. it's a great place, have lunch at gigi's market right at the farm.....

Wait a few weeks, for when the Tristar Strawberries arrive at the Greenmarket in Union Square! Best strawberries I've ever tasted.

Yeah, I was going to say, you should wait a little while anyway. The season is just starting and have been slowed down a little by all the rain, little sun and generally low temps so far this spring. Before making the trek all the way to some farm, you could definitely use the greenmarket as a bellwether.

Speaking of which, I just bought some strawberries from Sycamore Farms at the Union Square Greenmarket (their first day back!), and they are sweet and flavorful. Not quite as mindblowing as the Tristars, but still tasty.

Tristar Strawberries have returned to the Union Square Greenmarket! Berried Treasures have them.
