Squash Substitute for Dinner TONIGHT - Zucchini Good?

Making Herbed Summer Squash & Potato Torte right now.

couldn't find either the yellow crookneck or regular yellow summer squash and got zucchini instead.

is this a good substitute? is there more moisture I should be aware of. I'm using the zucchini regardless but thought there may be some adjustments I may need to do.

anyone know? the is no liquid ingredients.

I don't see why not. If you said eggplant yes you would need to put salt on it and let the liquid drain for a 1/2 hour or so, but if your not using any liquid, i don't see why not.

zucchini, yellow squash, more or less the same thing.... don't be afraid!

awesome. it's weird that there is no butter or liquid. is this normal. it seems to me to be like a potato gratin that always has cream & butter?

i just put it in the oven as is, but should i add some?

well, I just ate it. didn't add any liquid or butter.

only change was using zucchini and adding a bit more cheese.

it was really good. needed more salt but good stuff. i recommend it.

how funny....just bought some summer squash yesterday to make the same recipe this weekend.
on a side note...does anyone know of a good website where I could enter the recipe & get nutrition info?

You can easily substitute any summer squash. Zucchini is great. Patty pan works too.

Zucchini tends to cook up a little softer than yellow crook neck, but if you're making a torte, it should be absolutely fine.

@CJ: what's Patty pan? And yes the zucchini was kinda mushy - still tasty though.

of course.... to me zucchini and summer squash are almost interchangeable...
