Sorbet Recipe - without an ice cream maker!

A very inexpensive flavorful technique for making sorbet at home.

10 Comments:

I don't know that this process will actually produce a sorbet, but it would taste good just the same and I think you have found us a right nifty trick there, jh70095.

In that case many of us pastry chefs who use pacojets are not truly making sorbet.
This technique was created in hopes of making a full flavored fresh fruit frozen dessert at home.

I cannot stand Bananas. Any suggestions on what to substitute in their place?

@thepirateking you don't need the banana. It is there to help to create a creamy texture. You can certainly follow the procedure without the bananas. Another idea would be to use a little yogurt. This is basically a guideline of a technique that you can use with whatever fruits you can find that are above par.

I can't stand bananas either - how about avocado?

When I was in Brazil, I had a pudding for dessert made with avocado - I don't know the recipe, unfortunately, but it was truly delicious - for that reason, @tapioca and @thepirateking, I will bet substituting avocada for the banana would be brilliant. BTW, does anyone out there know how to make the avocado pudding?

i do this all the time in my blender. i blend up frozen peaches with a handful of frozen raspberries, add lemon juice, vanilla, and agave nectar, and voila, delicious sorbet.

Here's my recipe for pomegranate sorbet. You can obviously substitute any other juice.

@cybercita Thats exactly what I am hoping others will do. As I said, this is a just a guideline of a technique for one to use at home with the best fruits they can find.

@orchidgirl that is a brilliant color on your frozen dessert, but I myself would consider it a granita.

Agree with jh70095 that orchidgirl's recipe is a granita. Either way, it looks quite yummy! In school, we had a day of making different types of granita. We scooped some pomegranate granita and added a scoop of margarita granita to it. It was like the perfect adult slushy to eat on a hot Summer day.
