road trip grub?

i've got an 8 hour trip ahead of me later today.
my sweet boyfriend has offered to pick some snacks.
i told him a can of mixed nuts, but beyond that i'm drawing a blank.
(i blame it on my mind being addled with all of the other details of my trip)
i'm relying on you guys to give me some guidance!
(he's dropping by a grocery store, so he won't have time to cut anything up, etc.)
my brain thanks you in advance.

Maybe some fresh fruit (apples come to mind), and something to drink (maybe flavored seltzer water like Canfield's)? Some white cheddar popcorn?

it's not a roadtrip for me without some jerky and prezels.

Apples, bananas, water. If there's a deli a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread!

2nd the [beef] jerky. Chips, dried fruits/trail mix.

Pack a cooler with ice and throw fruits and/or water/soda/juice.

While not a snack, some strong minty gum.

Ditto to all the above, plus baby carrots and lots of water!

I'm interested in this thread as well.. I'm driving from Vermont to Missouri in a few weeks.. alone... lol... and needed some ideas as to what to take. Good ideas.

Chocolate. Also, this came up I think more than once in the past few months, so do a search of talk threads and you should find alot mroe ideas.

cookies, apples, nuts, dried fruit, gum, gummy candy...get a good mix of stuff and something you like to chew on just in case you get sleepy. safe travels!

thanks guys!
i gave your suggestions to m'boy & will be on the road soon...laden with goodies!
have a wonderful weekend everyone! :)

Perhaps bake a pan of bars and take a few along. Blondies would be good. Nothing like a sugar buzz on a road trip!

I have devised a trail mix combo which I think is both tasty and somewhat healthy. I combine whole almonds, vanilla yogurt covered raisins and Plumsweets. Delicious!

For some reason a road trip isn't complete for my husband and me unless we have Twizzlers. Never eat them any other time. I know, weird.

I like to keep a jar of peanut butter for celery, crackers. Crackers Crackers Crackers, and slices of cheese is good too.

salty bad for you chips and sugar laden sodas! It all helps fight fatigue. I also go for jerky, popcorn, Sonic Limeades, popcorn chicken - pretty much stuff I don't eat regularly.

If it's a day time ride, pack some sandwiches cut in halves or cheese and sausage cubes or peanut butter or humus with crackers for nibbling, fresh fruit (grapes, melon chunks, apples or bananas), raw vegetable strips (carrot, celery, red pepper, cucumber slices), juice or soda, bottled water, a salty snack (chips, pretzels) and some chocolate (m&m's?) or cookies and toss everything into a little cooler. Might be nice to have a thermos of coffee and some travel cups for later in the ride or with the cookies.

If it's a night time ride, pack some trail mix, nuts, pretzels and other nibbly items.

Think "grazing foods".

I just recommended Cup-A-Cake carriers for fresh cupcakes on another thread - I've never been affiliated with the company in any way. They really keep your standard sized cupcakes safe from squashing and smooshing under any conditions (including being buried in handbags), though if the icing is very creamy, it might spread a little if not packed upright:

It think they might still be available at the King Arthur online store.

String cheese, raisins, almonds, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, hummus, baby carrots. All easy to just buy and throw in the car for the trip.

Little cans of potted meats ,vieana sausages ,baked beans, sauerkraut, RC cola , Little Debbies , pork skins ,corn Kurls , the list goes on ...but it's a good idea to keep at least two windows open .

Keep in mind that it's summer and chocolate will get all melty unless you have a cooler. I know this from recent experience.

Nuts are my favorite road trip food. For some reason whenever I travel - be it by car or plane - I have cashews. But I almost never eat them otherwise,.

While I also usually have a bottle of water in the car, I try to minimize my liquid consumption, especially if we're in the middle of nowhere.
