Punta Cana-resort with guaranteed good food??? Nervous :)
My sister just came back from Paridisssus in Punta Cana...a 5 star resort says Expedia and others. Both her and her friend said the resort was "perfect" but the food "not good" I am nervous because I wonder how a 5 star rated resort can have "not good" food, when there are like 8 restaurants. Has anyone been to a "NICE" all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana with great food.

My husband and I stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical on our honeymoon (October 2008). The food was not the worst I'd ever had, but it certainly was not great (in fact, I got food poisoning during the trip). I think you will be hard-pressed to find an all-inclusive resort with great food...I just don't think it's possible when they have to focus on feeding so many people. But good luck!

I went to the White Sands Resort and the food was pretty good, I must say.

If you're here on Serious Eats, then you likely have a different idea of what "good food" is than the average person who visits a Caribbean resort. To me, there's a difference between "good" restaurant food and "good" resort food, and I just grin and bear it when I'm on a resort vacation. What I mean is that, if a restaurant served me the same food I typically get at a resort, I'd be disappointed. I'm sure there are some exquisite boutique resorts with genuinely good food, but they're out of my price range.
Specifically, no, I haven't been to Punta Cana, though I've been elsewhere in the DR.

My best food experience in DR has been at Majestic Elegance, but that said, I agree wtih Lorenzo and SEAtoNYC- it's hard to find what serious eaters would describe as good food at an all inclusive resort. After attending 3 different all-inclusives, I'm pretty much done with them. Part of the reason I travel is to try different cuisines, and you won't find that on the resort, quite frankly.

The BF got food poisoning at a resort in Punta Cana a few years back. I think some of the issues stem from so many ingredients being imported, and therefore kept in questionable conditions for unknown amounts of time before preparation and/or serving.
