Katz's Pastrami

I was recently in NYC and had to go to Katz's to try their pastrami because (a) I love Montreal style smoked meat and wanted to experience the NYC tradition and (b) I'd never had pastrami so I figured I start with what many argue is the best. The thing is, I never in a million years expected pastrami to taste so much like hot dogs. Does all pastrami taste like hot dogs?

No, it's the other way around 'hot dogs can taste like pastrami'. It's a pure delicacy and should be enjoyed with the up most care and mustard. My favorite is Pastrami on Rye / with spicy mustard and a Kosher Dill on the side with a cup of Matza Ball soup.

That my friend is just a darn good meal. :0)

I've never been to Katz's, but I know that you can get some wicked good pastrami at the 2nd Ave Deli (now on 33rd and 3rd).

Was it sliced hot? That's the way to go.

DUDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Katz's is worth the trip - mouth watering!!! a must try - not at all like hot dogs. The best in NYC!

@eze, whereas 2nd Ave. has kashrut that's conservative, Katz's doesn't have one at all. So I can't go to there :(

It was sliced hot and was good, just surprisingly hot dog-y.

Odd, I don't think Katz's pastrami is remotely hot doggy. Did you not get it fatty? Oh my, oh my -- all fatty and piping hot with the black edges... it tastes more like brisket than hot dogs to me.

Or maybe you just have some really good hot dogs?
