Is the food in JFK actually good?

So I did a bit of searching on here about JFK. I did find those posts about Terminal 5 (I am flying jetblue. woohoo!). But aside from 5ive steak... nothing was reviewed or recommended. I usually carry my own food when I travel. I'm leaving from work though, so it might be difficult.
So, is the food in JFK (Terminal 5 or elsewhere) good?
:]

The Starbuck's and other chains taste like all the others. You're taking a big risk if you get adventurous.

Few times I've flown through JFK, I was so unimpressed with the food choices I can't even remember what I ate. And I've been there at least 5 times. But Continental has pulled out. So I'm in and out of Newark now.

In a word, no. The best thing I've ever eaten there was a frosty from Wendy's. Last time I flew through I grabbed a vegetarian wrap at one of those little market places. It was filled with chicken salad.

Terminal 5 has better options than any other airport terminal I've ever been to!

Well, we were stuck THREE DAYS in JFK last year (supposed to have flown JetBlue but thankfully flew out on Delta). We packed food for only a day, of course, so we ended up trying the Asian food, subs and salads. All of it was so-so and overpriced. There was a little eatery in the aisle (upscale Asian) which did have some great California rolls and sushi. I would definitely pack your own food and bring an empty water bottle to refill. I hope you have a better flying experience than we did.

There was a time when I had to do a lot of flying, but that was ten years ago. At that time, Phoenix Sky Harbor had the best food I have ever eaten at an airport. Judging from smell alone, I'd guess that McCarran International (Las Vegas) might have as good or better, but I never had anything but a short layover in Vegas. Both Phoenix and Las Vegas have excellent architecture and are a joy to visit.

Eat before you go past the security check point. We flew out of JFK with Delta, and there was a very limited and sad selection after TSA. It's no Atlanta Hartsfield (which, incidentally, has the best of any airport food I've had).

Agree with @producestories. If you are flying JetBlue, hence out of Terminal 5, you have great choices. http://newyork.seriouseats.com/2008/10/jet-blue-terminal-5-five-t5-jfk-airport-food-court-nyc.html

just be glad your not flying Delta out of terminal 3 just woeful choices

thanks nick. I found that review. But its the only review you have about any of the Terminal 5 options.
Maybe I'll try out a different spot and post my thoughts up here.
:P
Here's to hoping my flight is ok with all this terrible weather!!

Everything I've had at Piquillo in T5 has been amazing! The space is very cool as well. I would specifically recommend the egg salad with boquerones.

I fly Jet Blue often. While not haute cuisine, there are many options. I actually like the fast food they have but that is just me. There is food on both sides of the security check in. More after check in. It is better than many terminals in airports. No major restaurants, though. Nice store for prepackaged sandwiches and wraps and fruit and things. If you buy a little from here and a littl from there, you can put together a decent meal.

and if you want, you can get a massage as well! :)

I'm sure I'll get slammed for my taste, but I really, really like Lucy's Asian Kitchen in Terminal 5. It's one of the cheapie fast food options, but everything there is cooked to order and not greasy. Plus, I am Chinese, so that's gotta count for something, right? :)

I was recently stuck in T5 for an eight-hour delay and consoled myself mainly at Piquillo. I didn't eat anything (though everyone else's food looked pretty good), but stuck to their excellent and relatively inexpensive wine list. For comparison: a really big pour of excellent albariƱo at Piquillo is $9; a glass of revolting Chardonnay at Chili's in O'Hare is also $9.
