I would love to kiss...

...The first person to use an ice cream scoop to portion out cooky dough. Consistently sized cookies...YAY!

You? Can you think of a procedure, technique, off-label use for something you can't live without in the kitchen? Who would you kiss?

I use kitchen shears to cut pizza - it seems like a "no brainer" but I am amazed at the number of remarks I get.

@bareneed - my Mom used to use kitchen scissors to cut up my little sister's food all the time - it was so much easier and faster!

My boyfriend uses an ice cream scoop. I had never seen anyone do this before, but it seems really obvious to me now.

When i read the title of the post I immediately thought of Sam from Top Chef Season 2... cutie.

But realizing what your post is all about... I would have to say I would also like to kiss the inventor of the silicone spatula. I love to scrape every little ounce of whatever it is I am mixing/making and not leave anything to waste. I can't stand wastefulness.

I use an ice cream scoop for my meatballs, so they are always the same size. (maybe a little anal!!)

Stephen J. Poplawski the inventor of the blender.

Kim Jones, Yankees on field reporter. Much more of a thrill to me than ice cream scoopers

@stacemace - I might have to choose you for who I want to kiss. How could I have not seen something so ovbious! Probably because I'm a raging slacker who would rather just assign meatball making to the bf ... this has to work for falafel too. genius!

i would totally kiss the person who first used her husband's rasp grater on an orange and went on to found microplane.

Two words: parchment paper.

And a big French kiss for the inventors of the microwave, refrigerator, and modern oven.

God knows how I ended up having two melon ballers - one really small, the other one is relatively large - but they are fantastic multitaskers! I use the larger one both for falafel and for meatballs, the smaller one when I make little meatballs for soup, and both of them for various biscuits/cookies. I don't even eat melons, ever, but I'd kiss the person who invented melon ballers:-).

And I agree with @Heart on all counts...

besides my 14 year old german shepard that died chirstmas day last year, it would be the person that first brewed beer or whoever first cooked meat over a fire.

@olddad - what a nice sentiment.... i'm sure you miss your old buddy.

un beso for the heat proof spatula inventor......

the first guy brave(or hungry) enough to eat an oyster.

That Zyliss round pizza wheel cutter thing. It's great for cutting all kinds of doughs, breadsticks, whatever. So much easier to use than the kind with a handle.

I also love silicon spatulas, but I've never found one in what I would consider exactly the right shape and amount of flexibilty.

The person who grew some beans, threw them in the fire, chopped them up and added near boiling water to produce the lovely brew we know as coffee.
It will certainly be the last vice I give up.

Eric Ripert!

and whoever invented the microplane grater.

George Foreman? Hm. Maybe not kiss, but I'd give him a good solid handshake. :)

I'd kiss the person who invented the hot air popper for popcorn. I LOVE that thing!

Can't live without my toaster oven, so a big kiss to the inventor. And a second place kiss for my electric blender.

Tyler Florence!! For teaching me that high heat = juicy roast meats.

Also for sharing his secret for creamy pillow-like scrambled eggs: add cream and cook low and slow.

Oh, and for showing me how to shuck oysters.

And, especially for his Shrimp and Grits recipe, which I have modified - slightly, but LOVE. LOVE, LOVE!

I love you Tyler Florence!!!! You rock my socks off, you ultimate honey, you!!

XOXOXOX,
~ Paula

Whoever walked out of a cave with the first set of carbon steel knives and an Asian cleaver.
On the rebound, I'd plant one on the first McIlhenny to stir up a vat of Tabasco sauce and led the way to an atomic explosion of hot sauces from across the globe.

This isn't a tool or technique, but I'd love to kiss whoever figured out how to make bacon.

Hmm I don't like kissing anyone but my wife. But my hero worthy of a handshake is the guy who invented the infrared toilet flushing sensor. You do your business walk away and the commode flushes by itself. We've all seem them. They are invaluable!

The creator of the juicer...I hate manually juicing lemons and limes for recipes!

Oh yeah, and Alton Brown. I heart him to no end.....it's the glasses

The first person that ground spices in a coffee grinder. I don't purchase ground spices anymore. do it myselt
Alton Brown - learned a ton about the science of food from him.
Tom Collichio - Do I need to explain this one? bald, blue eyed, in a chef's coat.

@Paula Maack

I totally agree, Tyler Florence is hot (swoon)

I'd kiss the guy who figured out spam musubi, ramen, bbq sauce and the guy who invented carls jr.

Whoever thought to drink the stuff coming out of a cow. Hm that looks interesting, what does it taste like, oh this tastes gooood.

And whoever decided to then take that milk, curdle it, pack it into wheels and then slice and eat.

What can I say, I'm from Minnesota! Love me some dairy.

My affection goes to the immersion blender inventor - and to the person who figured out that hand-drying dishes spreads more germs than letting them air dry. Both made my life so much easier!

i think the inventor of the cuisinart processor!!!

@inothernews: that made me laugh! and yes, i am entirely with you on that bit.
@amiyrah: alton is one of my lovers. in my head. I always say id like a husband just like him.
