Chi-Town Suggestions

I'll be visiting Chicago for the first time this Wednesday, and will be staying with a friend until Sunday. I intend to take a grand food tour of the town so I would love suggestions for must eats and foodie spots that I can't miss. Most importantly, where can I eat the best pizza and hot dogs in town?

Best Hot Dogs = Hot Dougs. Go early. Expect to wait. It's worth it.

Best Pizza = Great Lake. Thanks to GQ, it's almost impossible to get in, however.

While in town you should also try an Italian Beef (Al's maybe), and enjoy the plethora of tasty Mexican food this city has to offer.

If you like Greek food, definitely check out the Parthenon. And if you have a sweet tooth, Margie's has the best sundaes and homemade candies.

Frontera Grill

I just came from Chicago about a month ago. Click here to find my reviews of restaurants including photos!

Pizza - Lou Malnati's.

Portillo's makes awesome hot dogs and italian beefs.

my personal favorite for hot dogs is flukey's and for pizza, pizzeria due.

the serious eats chicago guide is spot on, methinks. especially the tip about pequod's pizza.
on top of all their recommendations, i'd also suggest a late-night trip to the wiener's circle for a char dog with everything.

Go for breakfast at Ann Sather's. Delicious Swedish pancakes and other goodies. And cinnamon buns that will break your heart. Absolutely perfect.

There's also a great breakfast place in the Gold Coast (near the Hancock) opposite the Sutton Place Hotel. Fluffy omelets and great hash browns.

Definitely have pizza...I love Lou Malnatti's and Gino's East above all others. Or try a stuffed pizza at Edwardo's.

Don't eat there (it costs a fortune and isn't that good) but go to the Hancock tower and have a drink in the bar. It's right below the observation deck, but it's free to get in. Sit by a window and look out over the lake.

Get an Italian Beef, by all means. I like mine cheesy combo, dipped, with peppers.

Tamales, Gyros and pizza puffs for drunken snacking.

Green Dolphin Street has a special place in my heart, as we went there the night of our engagement. The pizza is actually pretty good. The music is better.

Go see a Sox game, have a dog with mustard and a beer, and cheer them to victory for me. A hot dog at a Sox game tastes better than anything else.

Pizza = Pequod's for thicker crust, Coal Fire for thinner crust.
Hot Dogs = Hot Doug's. Note: Duck fat fries are available only on Friday & Saturday. They are worth it.
