Chicken Dinner Bars: Name Origin?
One of the few foods in the world that I absolutely cannot pass up, no matter how sugared-out I am, how "fat-day" feeling I am, or even how full I am (we are talking Thanksgiving full here) are called Chicken Dinner Bars.
Now, I know that I have seen the recipe in old Methodist and Lutheran church cookbooks from as far back as the 1940's, I think. It has also been a family recipe tradition that has been passed down for a few generations now. It consists of a layer of cereal, usually Rice Krispies (although I sometimes use Cheerios for something different), a layer of peanut buttery goodness and a top layer of chocolatey goodness.
However, I cannot for the life of me think of how the name came to be. I have only ever seen this recipe called Chicken Dinner Bars, but despite numerous website searches and Google searches, I cannot find the origins of the name. I know that there used to be a candy bar with that name, but it was different from this recipe, so I am not sure that there is a relation.
Does anyone know the origin of this delicious, irresistable goodness?
