Buying bison meat online
Does anyone have any good recommendations for buying bison meat online? I'd like to get my dad a variety pack of some sort delivered, and have only really found one place online (Jackson Hole Buffalo Meat) but they seem pretty pricey. Has anyone bought bison meat online?

They're all going to be expensive because they have to be shipped cold and fast, so the shipping costs can be more than the meat. You might have better luck finding a supplier close to where your dad is, and having them deliver. You could probably hire a courier service cheaper than having it packed and shipped by the usual methods. Or give him a certificate to go there and buy.

Oh yeah, and someone shipped us some meat from a place that specializes in game and unusual meats, and our stuff arrived 3 weeks later. It was frozen because it arrived in the dead of winter, but I didn't trust it after 3 weeks in transit. Neither the shipper nor the supplier was willing to replace the product. And this was an in-state shipment. The only reason we knew the shipping date was because we called them to find out who had shipped the items to us, since that was nowhere to be found on or in the packaging. That's when we found out how long it had been traveling. Yuck.

Wild Idea out of my hometown of Rapid City, SD is The Best. I have done design work from them in the past, my best friend use to do their marketing and my family has sworn by them for years. They ship anywhere too! Check 'em out, you will -not- be disappointed!

I'm assuming you don't live in the same town as you father. If you do, are there any grocery stores similar to Whole Foods in your area? That's where I buy my Bison and they have a nice, wide selection. You might check one of the bison association websites for retailers. They have lots of info.

I've never eaten them, but almost every time I go to Seattle I drive by the seemingly happy (if that makes a difference to you) roaming buffalo from Swauk Prairie Bison.
