Back from Italy- need salumi stat!
Hi Serious Eaters.
I just spent a month an Italy and am now totally addicted to pork. My question is, where can you go in NYC (or online) to get authentic Italian salumi? Or good ham for that matter? I am willing to leave Manhattan.
thanks in advance for your advice~!

Mario Batsli's father has a place in Seattle called Salumi, and the website is www.salumicuredmeats.com.

Try Cesare Casella's Salumeria Rosi on the UWS...I really enjoy his salumi as well as his other dishes.

Di Palo on Grand Street. They have a wonderful selection and Lou is extremely helpful and informative. Here is the website: http://www.dipaloselects.com/diary.php
Enjoy!

I second Di Palo. Also, the "downtown" Fairway on Broadway and 74th, the Murray's charcuterie stand in Grand Central Station and the sopressata from Esposito on Court St. in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.
If you're getting prosciutto, make sure you specify that they don't slice the prosciutto so thin.

I'd also check out BKLYN Larder (run by the Franny's folks) in Brooklyn.

Second on Salumeria Bielesse. And while you're there, get a grilled sausage sandwich. My husband doesn't even like sausage, and he can't stop thinking about that sandwich. It's been over a month.

check out berretta meats - don't know who carries them in your area.... they're an italian company that has been in business since 1812. i visited their plant in nj once and they gave me the whole schpeil on how they use the old recipes from italy and try to copy the conditions that the old timers would use (i.e. - the temperature of your barn during the day or at nite)...
very interesting and very tasty. their bresaola is very good.... they have salami's from every part of italy - so many to choose from ... all so delicious. you can find their stuff up on arthur ave.

Salumeria Rosi - absolutely! Biellese is good but .....forget fairway, great for everything else but this. Also try the Italian food store in Chelsea Market called buon italia.
