Triscuits and hummus if I have it, a Subway footlong if I have five bucks on me (it's on my way home).
kfarrel3 at 10:17PM on 05/10/09
Cottage cheese and a dill pickle. Quick and hits my savory cravings and my creamy and crunchy texture quest. However, there's nothing like cottage cheese to get Miss Ellie begging--she's one cheese loving doggie!
dhorst at 10:17PM on 05/10/09
to answer my own post - i usually grab a piece of cheese. i must have been a mouse in my previous life.
pooch at 10:19PM on 05/10/09
Kashi TLC crackers and sharp cheddar cheese
poke87 at 10:19PM on 05/10/09
Triscuits and hummus for me too, or peanut butter
alclyp at 10:22PM on 05/10/09
@dhorst - yes, my peachy loves cheese, too. he's a real begger when it comes to cheese.... thank god he's a "rind" dog.
pooch at 10:22PM on 05/10/09
granola bars.
gingercookiewithlime at 10:27PM on 05/10/09
a bowl of cereal or a Greek yogurt (not a low fat one)
kathyvegas at 10:30PM on 05/10/09
Pretzels and a diet coke. I love pretzels. Or an apple, orange or pear.
sweethunibabi at 10:53PM on 05/10/09
peanut butter. my fridge and pantry are devoted to vehicles for peanut butter. (jams, jellies, pretzels, bread, honey, ect)
mcboomofdoom at 10:56PM on 05/10/09
I almost always have carrot and celery sticks in the fridge so I will grab some of those with peanut butter or hummus or cheese.
In the winter it is citrus fruits.
Yogurt also is a quick go to.
sadiepix at 11:08PM on 05/10/09
Gotta go with peanut butter too...probably spread on a banana, and accompanied by a glass of chocolate soymilk. Second choice is hummus with pita chips and veggies.
kimberlymac at 11:57PM on 05/10/09
peanut butter captain crunch. :/
aspaaaragus at 12:15AM on 05/11/09
I always have a bag of chips/crackers/crunchy snacks for after work. If I'm free the rest of the night, a beer goes with. Otherwise milk or OJ.
mikaque at 1:53AM on 05/11/09
If I'm feeling healthy (or guilty about what I've consumed recently), I have an apple. Otherwise, olives and cheese and a big glass of wine or a martini, helps me focus on cooking dinner. :)
nowsonexitmusic at 2:29AM on 05/11/09
Oatmeal or a hunk of bread and piece of cheese
JerzeeTomato at 3:02AM on 05/11/09
Greek yogurt with honey, hummus with a cracker or veggie, or a PBJ with banana.
gourmetgal at 3:04AM on 05/11/09
Depends on what's in the fridge. If we have leftover take-out, then I'll grab that. Otherwise, it's a bowl of cereal, yogurt, toast with a fried egg, cheese and/or a handful of nuts (or some combination of those items). And then I'll probably take a little nap.
Amandarama at 7:24AM on 05/11/09
unfortunately, chicken nuggets (the oven kind, not McD's, at least..)
cowprintrabbit at 8:24AM on 05/11/09
Whatever I am making for supper - I will eat a few raw veg as I am prepping - maybe some grapes - now that I don't feel like something more substantial, but it would blow all my efforts for the day to snack at that time and then eat supper (which I always have to prepare because of husband.)
bareneed at 8:48AM on 05/11/09
yogurt, or cheese and crackers. but really at that point anything tastes pretty good
hungrygrl7 at 8:49AM on 05/11/09
I can ALWAYS eat some bread with butter, cheese, or peanut butter.
arm1970 at 8:54AM on 05/11/09
Leftovers, but if there aren't any available, cheese and crackers!
embolini9 at 8:56AM on 05/11/09
a piece of bread with cheese, or cracker topped with butter and cheese. Or a big cookie!
nindi_18 at 9:08AM on 05/11/09
Skipping lunch...not happening. I still go home famished and raid the kitchen though. Oatmeal. Cereal. Powerbar. Fruit (fresh or dried). Peanut butter. Bread. Bagels. Crackers or pretzels. Leftovers (ESPECIALLY if there's pizza or pasta). As you can see, I'm really picky.
cycorider at 9:20AM on 05/11/09
Cheese or a half a PB sandwich...
sammie at 9:33AM on 05/11/09
the first food item in sight.
hmw0029 at 9:34AM on 05/11/09
Turkey pepperoni, a Baby Bell cheese and a sleeve of crackers. Mmmmm, makes me happy
meem21 at 10:04AM on 05/11/09
@nowsonexitmusic, now that's my kind of cooking =)
kfarrel3 at 10:12AM on 05/11/09
An apple. After the apple, I'd go on and make myself "real" food.
KarynMC at 10:42AM on 05/11/09
A beer if you want me to be honest lol. No for food I usually grab at either leftovers or some sort of crackers, chips or nuts that I have in the house.
pjracz10 at 11:03AM on 05/11/09
A beer and olives....I love olives.
katiedid at 11:10AM on 05/11/09
Pepperoncini, and whatever leftovers I can eat right out of the fridge (like pasta salad).
Kerosena at 11:26AM on 05/11/09
Most likely, the first thing I grab would be a slice of bread with whatever ("whatever" may be just butter and sea salt)...Then, I'll have the energy to grab some cheese and fruit/berries and get a nice glass of wine. Or make a tomato salad with garlic, basil, cilantro and olive oil. (And a glass of wine).
brooke29 at 11:35AM on 05/11/09
I'm a protein person....the first thing I grab is either a piece of leftover meat from the previous nights dinner, or a piece of cold cut...ham, turkey...whatever is in the fridge....then I cook dinner.
mepolo at 12:13PM on 05/11/09
In the summer when our farmer's market is going ... kind of a chopped caprese salad: sweet yellow, red and/or purple cherry tomatoes, fresh/local mozzarella, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt & pepper, plus some basil if I have it around. Best omgSTARVING afterwork snack ever.
joyyy at 12:56PM on 05/11/09
Peanut/cashew/almond (whichever) butter on whole grain toast.
chisai at 1:00PM on 05/11/09
yogurt & apple
gargupie at 1:15PM on 05/11/09
I might tide myself over with an apple or other piece of fruit. I've also been known to root around for pretzels.
therealchiffonade at 2:48PM on 05/11/09
Come one, these are nibbles, and if I have a light breakfast and no lunch I'm starved by 4.
I always have some sort of cake or pie around, so a good sized slice of that. Current craving is coconut cream pie, but I won't be choosy.
Then an apple with peanut butter smeared over it. And if I'm still hungry, I'll make up a hot chocolate.
michichan at 3:22PM on 05/11/09
you know, i've got to get a jar of some really good peanut butter! i just never think to eat it.
what a dummy!
pooch at 7:45PM on 05/11/09
cheese and an adult beverage!
dharmon at 7:48PM on 05/11/09
@pooch - PB on toast...when it gets a little runny...guilty pleasure!
dharmon at 8:33PM on 05/11/09
some sort of carbohydrate, otherwise it won't satisfy me until dinner. crackers, a piece of bread, triscuits, pita chips -- that kind of thing.
megannesta at 9:09PM on 05/11/09
@dharmon - yes, i have had runny p.b. toast in the past. i like to warm the jelly up a little bit too. don't like cold jelly on warm pb toast. tomorrow.
peanut butter.
pooch at 9:20PM on 05/11/09
i work day shift in a restaurant, from 5am-4pm, so i see this quite a lot, actually...and i've gotta admit, i generally make very bad decisions at that point.
by the time i get home, i'm a lot of times nearly ravenous, and just eat whatever appeals to my basest instincts...a post-work meal of beer, steak'n'bac'n(a little doozy i made up--2 1/2 lb patties with bacon, cheese, mayo, barbecue sauce, jalapenos and onions), and a piece of chocolate cake is far from unheard of in my house.
rasellers0 at 10:03PM on 05/11/09
Oh my God, I love runny peanut butter. I microwave my PB&J sandwiches and PB bagels so the peanut butter gets warm and runny. (No toasting...I prefer the soft bread texture).
cycorider at 10:07PM on 05/11/09
sometimes, when i have p.b. in the house i'll make this little mixture:
1 tablespoon of p.b. + 1 tablespoon of pear butter and
squish it around. eat it with a spoon. all sugar free, this is my
dessert when i'm watching my sweets intake.
pooch at 10:35PM on 05/11/09
i can't tell you how charming i find it that so many posters are alike!
i totally go for some cheese & crackers or hummus and pita chips.
(aaaaand definitely a beer to wash it down!)
gastronomeg at 10:57AM on 05/12/09
What I should eat: Raw almonds and raisins or cottage cheese with generous dashes of spicy thai seasoning.
What I want to eat: Cheese sandwich or PBJ and diet soda
Sometimes I do what I should, other times I don't :)
ericjpdx at 10:58AM on 05/12/09
I usually grap a Special K bar. They're delicious and around 100 calories :)
KatomRS at 3:02PM on 05/12/09
Potato chips, granola bars, saltines. Pretty much whatever I have on hand!
cochon at 8:25PM on 05/12/09
PB or nutella on toast, for me, or milk tea (very strong black tea with milk -- you can buy it in bottles in Japan!!).
Skythe at 9:44PM on 05/14/09
any kind of yogurt with granola or chocolate chips or something else for a little bit of a crunch mixed in.
and probably a diet coke, but i'm definitely trying to cut back on those.
coffeeandclouds at 12:08AM on 05/27/09
an orange/fruit, some cereal or clam chowder...
really depends what i have.
blizcheetah at 12:34AM on 05/27/09
an apple and a hunk of cheese
a handful of triscuits, dab of peanut butter, sliced apples
or i just forgo the snack and start cooking...and taste-test a bit more than necessary.
wookie at 12:35AM on 05/27/09
Cherry Tomatoes then Bell Peppers then Yam Noodles then Nori Sheets and then Tomato Paste! ha ha!
Giasbash6260 at 10:48PM on 05/27/09
this happened today! and rare is the day that I skip lunch. I grabbed a little bag of honey roasted cashews.. mmmm
then devoured 2 slices of pizza the second I got home, about 1hr later.
:)
