Recs for Upper West Side eats?

Can anyone give me some recommendations on affordable restaurants near Broadway and 75th? I’ll be on my own in that area for a weekend in June. I’d like to spend $30 or less on dinners, $15 or less on lunches. I don’t have a huge appetite, but I am adventurous. I’d like to get in a mix of NYC classics (good slice of pizza?), and eclectic/interesting fare. I’d also prefer to avoid fussy places or ones that require reservations. Thoughts?

Hummus Place on Amsterdam near 75th

delicious hummus and other middle eastern meze, Israeli beer. Quite atmospheric, given how small and inexpensive it is...

Bring supplies (sandwiches et al) from Grandaisy Bakery on w. 72nd to Central Park for a picnic

go to Zabar's/Fairway, H&H bagels for more noshing, and if you really want to be authentically upper west side, how about a cuban-chinese place, like La Caridad 78 on Bway at 78th?

there's a taco truck that parks on 96th and broadway that is awesome called "super tacos." i haven't been in a year so i don't know if it's still there.

there are a bunch of ed levine reviews of places on the upper west side, so that would be a good place to start.

Still there. The best slice of pizza on the UWS (and arguably, in Manhattan) is Sal's on bway bet 101st & 102nd. Definitely go to Zabar's and H&H. Have some cream puffs at Beard Papa. La Caridad is also a must. Or La Flor de Mayo, I prefer the original location on bway bet 100 and 101. Go to Rack N Soul for amazing fried chicken and bbq pork, they are on 109th right off bway. Barney Greengrass for jewish, Murray's Sturgeon for cured and smoked fish. AVOID Carmine's at all costs. Not for you anyway if you don't have a big appetite. Yakitori Sun Chan on bway bet 103 and 104 is a great little izakaya, totally legit and delicious, and they have "happy hour" half price drinks after 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Symposium is a really classic old school greek restaurant tucked in behind Columbia. A hidden gem. Not sure why I'm even telling you this. 113th bet bway and amsterdam.

Oh, and for French, there is Picnic on bway also bet 101 and 102. They can get a bit pricey a la carte but they have a three course prix fixe for only $20, which is a steal.

I second Symposium and advise you to order the sangria and the Symposium Salad. Totally agree that it is a hidden gem. It might be a little deserted now that the students have gone home though, but that just means faster service!
I'm also a fan of Calle Ocho, a Latin place on Columbus and 81st. They also have a fun bar scene.

Patisserie Margot is a wonderful little cafe and has the best almond croissant in the city.

Alice's Tea Cup has nice, fresh food for lunch.

And, a walnut chocolate chip cookie from Levain could be an incredibly memorable $3.75 meal!

Zabar's is a must visit (it's a supermarket, but they make sandwiches and they have a cafe) and I love Sarabeth's for brunch.

Yay--A question about my neighborhood!
I highly suggest eating dinner at the bars in any of the nicer restaurants in the area (no need for a reservation). Chances are you'll be able to spend about $30 for dinner on an appetizer or two and a drink.
I'd suggest getting appetizers at the bar at Fatty Crab (broadway and 77th) (nothing goes better with their "fatty sliders" than PBR in a can for $3), Cafe Frida for truly excellent mexican on 77th and Columbus (again, sit at the bar), and Salumeria Rosi for cured meats and wine (Amsterdam and 73rd). If you want to splurge, Dovetail does an excellent Sunday Supper for $38 (on Sundays, of course!)--they also have a great bar. I believe Telepan does as well (69th and Columbus), but check. Both may be a bit too fussy for your taste.

Wine bars with food:
Barcibo Enoteca 69th and Broadway
Bin 71 (columbus and 71--also one of my favorite quiet brunch spots on weekends. Always a seat. Good panini)

Burgers, pizza, and pubs, and cheap eats:
burger and a beer at the "Amsterdam Ale House (formerly Westside Brewery) on 76th and Amsterdam, or follow the trend and go to Shake Shack (Manhattan's In and Out) on Columbus and 77th
Patsy's for pizza on Columbus and 76th (no delivery or slices--but they do have "individual pizzas)
or Rigoletto for pizza (Columbus and 70th)
I like Maoz for their falafel boxes (Broadway and 70th)
Aroma Cafe on 72nd between b-way and columbus has good sandwiches I'm told and free wifi

Dessert
Gellato at Grom on Broadway and 77th (or thereabouts)
Cupcakes at Magnolia on 69th and Amsterdam (another trend)

I second recommendations for:
Levain cookies
Beard Papa cream puffs
Grandaisy
Zabars
Barney Greengrass
La Caridad
Putting together a picnic and eating in the park (either Riverside or Central Park)

Finally, Harry's Burritos has a happy hour if you're looking for a cheap margarita to unwind with (but don't eat there!)
And the boat basin cafe at the 79th Street Boat basin (79th and hudson river) is a good place to get a sandwich and a drink and watch the river. Not great food, but you can't beat the location.
