Nice restaurants between NYPL and Port Authority?
Tomorrow I am celebrating my brother's birthday with a very cool evening at NYPL (visual-musical evening courtesy of Ben Katchor and Mark Mulcahy). The event goes from 7 PM until about 9, however, which breaks up the evening badly in terms of dinner.
My brother, who lives in Jersey, has voted for a place not far from either the library or Port Authority (for his bus home). But I'm not seeing a lot in the archives for nice restaurants in that area.
I would take him to Szechuan Gourmet, which is the best restaurant on my personal food map in that area, but it might be a little too hot for him.
Any suggestions?

Mmmm...Esca sounded right up my alley, but I just checked and they've got no openings between 8:15 and 9:45. Bummer! Thanks, though. I'll look into your other choices!

Damn, same thing at DB Bistro Moderne!
Any suggestions for places that aren't so hot that I can actually get a table??

Bryant Park Grill? Yeah, the food's not so great, but you can't beat the location and the ambiance!

Or maybe somewhere in Koreatown?

Dear Klg19, on behalf of the Cullman Center at NYPL (sponsors of the Katchor-Mulcahyfest), wahoo and thank you! I love Hangawi (Korean), just east of Fifth on 32nd - very tranquil and delicious. Kellari Taverna (upscale Greek) on W. 44nd (just west of Fifth) is a Cullman staff fave. Virgil's BBQ is close by, too, and it's always fun. For a Ye Olde New York Steakhouse experience, there's always Keens Chophouse, which is definitely in your stated parameters...and is very charming, if not vegetarian-friendly. See you tomorrow night at NYPL!

Not too many people know, but there is a French restaurant in/attached to the Port Authority called Metro Marche. Otherwise, Blue Fin in Times Square W Hotel or Re Sette.

Thanks to everyone--I decided to go with Blue Fin, and I'm very pleased.
And thanks for the welcome @eleeb--see you tonight! I came to the last Katchor-Mulcahy event and loved it very much.
