I want my Momma and my momma only :) She may not be famous or an icon...but, show me another woman whose macaroni and cheese makes everything feel better (from skinned knees to a broken heart)? And whose whipped cream cake is what I've looked forward to on my birthday since I was 11. My mother is amazing, and I hope I'm half as amazing of a mother someday!
I wouldn't mind having Lidia Bastianich in my family though. She'd fit right in! Her recipes also make frequent appearances!

Ina Garten
Julie Childs
But most and for most my own mother!!

I'd arm wrestle anyone to have Julia Child as mine...I'd want her to make me her roast chicken with the 99 cloves of garlic inside. At her house.

@sweethunibabi- You are amazing now and will continue to be, that was very sweet, your mom should be so lucky to have raised such a sweetie.

I would have loved to have known either of my grandmothers. I have no idea if either could cook, but it would have been interesting to have known what sorts of foods they ate and enjoyed, and it would have been interesting to have seen what sorts of foods they did cook, even it wasn't the best. I never met either one.

Thanks for the posts everyone. i hope i did not make it sound like i dont want my own mother! lord knows i have her to thank for my abilities in the kitchen. i too think my mom's mac and cheese could solve any problem and help with world peace. Three years ago we started doing mothers day dinner here at my house, i make the dishes i remember mom making when we were kids and a few dishes from my grandmother. its funny to see the reaction to what was her mothers recipe or something we all have not had together in years.
Happy soon to be mothers day all!

If it can't be my mother .. i'll pick either one of my grandmothers. And surprisingly, or so I thought, the night Top Chef had the famous chef's last meal, MOST of the chef's wanted their mamma's cookin too, simple things from their childhood cooked by their own mammas!
Ok.. in the spirit of your inquiry, I'll take any mamma, even Paula Deen who does cook alot like my father's mother. If i turn the sound off when I watch her.. it is my Grandma!

1. My mom and my grandmother (dad's side).
2. Julia Child
3. I'd also like it if Kylie Kwong would adopt me. Or be my cool aunt.

Either of my grandmothers although I remember what exacting task masters they were.

Paula Deen....only because look like my mother and cooks exactly the same way.

Elizabeth David, because she is as funny as hell. And her food is fun and rustic and lively.

My mother was a culinarian. She could teach a few TV "chefs" a thing or two. While I'm sure it was wonderful to grow up as the child of Lidia Bastianich or Biba Caggiano, I would opt for my own mother, had I the choice.
