McClure's Spicy Pickles: anyone know what type of pepper?

McClure's Spicy Garlic Pickles have just arrived in Williams-Sonoma stores. Brought some home today, thinking "I LOVE pickles!" Spicy is an understatement. Granted I am not a spicy food person, but my face is melting off. They have amazing flavor, and good crunch, but the heat really sticks around.

My question: anyone know what kind of peppers are in there? There are two small orange peppers that look like Habaneros, and two long red ones that I think are Cayenne peppers. Sounds about right, because these babies are HOT.

I can only eat one at a sitting, but once the burn goes away, I find myself craving more. :)

my guess is cherry peppers or scotch bonnets - the latter of which I've never seen, so i don't know their color

Wouldn't it be on the jar??

This just in from Bob McClure, co-owner of McClure's Pickles:

"Yes, we use habaneros and cayenne peppers to spice up the pickles.

The original recipe called for just cayenne peppers, but we found that we needed to make them faster and hence needed them to be spicier—faster. The habanero does just that. Combined with the cayenne it mellows out the intense heat of the habanero.

The heat of the pepper (called capsaicin) is actually found in high quantities in the inner parts of the pepper and excretes through the oils on the outer flesh of the fruit as well."

Went to the website to look, and also emailed Bob McClure - he said that Serious Eats beat me to the punch (obviously :-) )

Now I'm in the mood for some serious pickles. I'm ready to cry with capsaicin pain!

Thanks guys!
@caramel: no, it just says "peppers".
@Erin: that was my guess, but I didn't think someone would put such spicy peppers in pickles. I guessed wrong. ;)
@finewinendine: if you like heat, get these. Such good flavor, and the heat really settles in your chest and throat.
