Lost Recipe Help - Shrimp/Artichoke boil

Years ago, some friends made a delicious dinner that used fresh artichokes and fresh shrimp (in shell) that were boiled - I believe separately - with a spicy mix, including a can of chiles en adobo.

The shrimp and artichokes were dumped in the center of the table on many layers of newspaper, and served with lime juice-infused mayo for dipping. I think all of those details were included in the recipe - these friends were not foodies or cooks, and they were quite pleased with this impressive meal.

Sound familiar to anyone? It was really wonderful, and now is a great time of year for the feast.

Ohhhh, sounds yummy and fun! Please pass on when you find it :)

amazing how a particular dinner can haunt you for years....

i have never heard of this, but why don't you give it a try, it could be your version of that recipe.

you must keep an open mind though, because it won't be exactly the same. but it could be a beginning.....

Yesterday on Food Network, Guy Fieri (yes, Mr. Neck Glasses, himself!) made a "boil" with artichokes, shrimp, andouille sausage, potatoes and corn - It was similar to what I know as a lowcountry boil, but I had never seen the artichokes - served up the same way as you describe - could this be a reasonable facsimile? If so, you can probably suss out the recipe if you go to their website and look under that chef. The water was also spicy and had some kind of pepper, I believe.
