In Dire Need of Picnic Brunch Options!
So, I'll be attending a picnic brunch this Saturday, and I have no idea what to bring. Here's what others are bringing: Bagels and cream cheese, coffee, Bloody Marys, Screwdrivers. What should I bring? Obviously, it should travel well/be good served at room temp. Also, I'm thinking it shouldn't be too carb-heavy, since there will be bagels. Any ideas?

what about tortilla espanola, it is simple potatoes, onions and eggs and I am sure you can find a good recipe online. it is wonderful room temperature even though it doesn't seem like it would be. bring along some piquillo peppers and manchego cheese and it would be amazing.

I can only think of boring things, like fruit salad. But actually I think fruit salad would be really good!

What about mini quiche? I like to use a pastry crust that substitutes part of the butter with cream cheese for my quiche. You could make them in mini muffin pans (and just pinch off a small ball of pastry and press in) or go a bit larger with small cupcake tins which I tend to roll pastry out for. They travel well and are nice at room temperature.
Another thought would be deviled eggs. Or maybe some smoked salmon (or other savory items) to top off the bagels and cream cheese that will be served.
For more of a "snacky" option, you might wrap breadsticks or pretzel rods in bacon, brush with mustard, sprinkle lightly with brown sugar and bake in a 350 oven until the bacon is done. It's a fun finger food (bacon on a stick) that's both sweet and savory and not too carb heavy.
Of course there's always fruit salad--easy and welcome at any brunch.

my thought was fruit salad as well. you could make a large yogurt parfair in a bowl or tupperware with fruit and granola. something sweet could work as well. who is bringing the coffee? maybe get biscottis to dip in the coffee. don't know where you are but nyc is cool and cloudy so a cup of hot joe saturday morning outside will be needed.

Mini frittatas...Giada and RR both have great recipes on FN.com and they're great at room temp.

I also agree that fruit salad would be perfect - all the berries are coming into season and so tasty right now.
A quiche or fritatta would work because they are good at room temp and a good brunch protein.
You could do a meat plate - bacon, ham, Canadian bacon, sausages, all okay for outdoor temps for a little while.

I'd go with a non-citrus fruit salad, sided with a really good plain yogurt (Ronnybrook Farm's kicks all other yogurts ass). Nothing sweetened.

I vote for the mini frittatas too...I've made them for office brunch before, they are great at room temp. You don't even need a recipe. Use a mini muffin pan, put a small amount of whatever ingredients you'd like into it...I think I used carmelized onion & bacon in one, and ham & spinach in the other. Add some grated cheese to that, then pour some scrambled eggs on top of that. You can season the eggs however you'd like. Bake @ 375 for about 20 min...until the eggs are set.

cinnamon rolls or coffee cake... croissants with jam...

Quiche! It's easily transported, protein rich, tastes great warm or room temperature, and is a nice, healthy, impressive option. If the crowd are omnivores, you can't beat the classic Quiche Lorraine. Otherwise, go with some wonderful seasonal vegetables.
Or, a fruit tart. I have an easy version, here, that can be adapted for any fruit you desire.
Both are quick, easy to transport crowd pleaser's, so you can't go wrong.
Enjoy your brunch date!

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll definitely be making the fruit salad, but I'm torn between mini quiches and cinnamon rolls...
