I make better _____ than _____.

Today I got annoyed because the guacamole on my lunch from Chipotle was too salty and not limey enough... so I decided to make my own to go with dinner - it was way better.

So it got me thinking - what do you make better than someone who is known for making that thing? What do you do to make it better?

For me, it's my chocolate chip cookies. My grandmother is known for her baking, but my chocolate chip cookies are hands-down better than hers. We use the same recipe (tollhouse), but mine are just better. I think it's because I mix it by hand and use more brown sugar and less white sugar, and better quality chocolate, while she uses the stand mixer, uses the measurements of sugar that the recipe calls for, and omits the salt.

What about you?

I make better CalmTheHellDown sauce than @truthman2008.

Amen to @annatr!

And I'm wondering what coal has to do with the topic?

Anyway.... I make everything better than Sandra Lee. And I make much better crab alfredo than Red Lobster. Probably because I use the good crab meat and not the leavings they use, and my sauce.... well, it just kicks ass.

I make better espresso italian coffee than indian bombay tea :) however, there are lot of other foods i love mixing up which at the end will amaze me :) it's all abt the taste in the end :)

I make wayyyyy better food than applebees. But that's not hard to do.

uh, guys. think of the above named Red Lobster and Applebees-- one would hope any foodie-cheffie's food would far exceed that of the chains.
Just saying.
I think I make better several various dishes than [some even my favorite] restaurants: my gumbo and pizzas tend to be the winners. my hummus tends to be better than even that from my absolute fave at home.

@buffy: haha who can't make something better than sandra lee? as long as you use REAL, whole ingredients, your food will be better!

I make better everything than my MIL.

i make better turkey than any i've tried.

I make better ANYTHING than I do RICE.

As far as "better than" restaurants - I make better guacamole than most non-Zarela-Martinez-owned Mexican places who are under the misconception that it's supposed to look like homogenous green GOO.

Recent experience has taught me that I make better meatloaf than most restaurants. I know that doesn't sound like something to crow about but it's damned fine meat loaf.

I like my vodka sauce way better than any jarred or even fine Italian restaurant vodka sauce I have tasted!

i make better lasagna than my mom! (sorry mom!)

I make the best corn on the cob in the world - don't mean to offend anyone, mine is just way better.

I make better Italian food than 95% of Italian-American restaurants.

And 75% of actual Italian restaurants.

I make a better afternoon snack (Fage, honey and cashew butter) than my coworker (knock off Ruffles chips). Sorry, too hard for me to think "outside of the moment" when I'm sucking down my yogurt mix.

@finewinendine - I'm with you. The woman doesn't know cooking exists outside of cubed ham and a crock pot.

I make better short work of food than anyone else I know.

@buffy--I hope you, and all SE cooks make food better than Aunt Sandy!

But seriously, I make focaccia better than Stew Leonards. Granted, I don't make the same volume, but my bread rocks--especially my one with roasted cherry tomatoes on top.

LMAO@annatr.....good one !!!

I make better BBQ pork than anyone !!!

I feel terrible saying this, but my all time favorite tomato and meat gravy is my aunt's. it's been passed down, etc, etc. I asked her one year for the recipe and it's surprisingly easy, only a few ingredients, and properly seasoned, delicious.

Since getting the recipe, I have tinkered with it over the last few years, and I think perfected it by adding a few things here, and adjusting measurements....ie, I add red wine after browning the tomato paste and garlic, and create a sticky substance that gives a tremendous amount of depth to the sauce.

So, I make better meat gravy than my aunt!

I make better shrimp creole than any restaurant I've ever tried.

I don't even order it in restaurants any more. I'm always disappointed.

Most everyone can make better duck confit that in any restaurant. It's all about aging.

I make better everything (except banana bread) than my own Mom. I love her to death, and since she has remarried, she's starting cooking. However, I learned to cook as a teen when I would cook dinner for us both as she worked full-time.

embolin19 took my tag line, 95% of the italian food in this country is american food bastardized by american taking basic italian recipes and adding cheese,

I definitely make better guacamole than I've had anywhere else. I also think I've surpassed my mom in making matzo brei.

I make better pasta than my mom. My mom's a great cook and makes GREAT Chinese food, but every time "pasta night" rolls around I can't help but cringe - she tosses the spaghetti in ketchup before throwing the sauce on top!

I make better food than my mom, though not my grandma
