I know this has been discussed before, but I don't care, in a good way

We are arriving Thursday, looking for good Street Vendor Food, staying on 5th Ave near the ESB. We eat anything, well not anything that is still alive.

Actually, I find myself at a loss for words.

I don't even understand the original post. But fortunately - I don't care either - in a good way.

Do you mean that you're traveling to NYC and staying near 5th Ave and the Empire State Building and you're interested in finding good food from street vendors in that area?

Also, I think there's a description on the start topics page about how the title of the thread should let you know what the thread is about.

Treats Truck.

i don't know where/what esb is, but if this is supposed to be new york city...the chicken guy on sixth ave between west third/west fourth, the mud truck (coffee) at astor place, the ice cream truck (i forget their name, but it's like fancy ice cream) on university and eighth, and the dessert truck (evenings it's at st marks and third ave i think) are all good starting points. also the taco truck on bedford avenue in williamsburg is excellent, if you want to venture into brooklyn. can't think of any more off the top of my head.

ya'll were fighting about poached eggs last time I checked. I really liked this site because there was a sence of humor about food, check deep fried bacon. thanks to you that just offered good into on food street vendors.

ESB is the Empire State Building.

Gingercookie, hummmm how can we make things clear to you,

phaleon 56 what is your recipe for hot and sour soup?

let's try this, we will be in New York City, this thursday, we were looking for suggestions on good local vendors of food. We will be in the Midtown area, we will be walking.

There's no need for sarcasm. A little niceness goes a mile around here.

I've heard that that dessert truck is good...the one with the good creme brulee?

Sorry, I can't help you with the street food, but your "we will be walking" made me giggle a bit at the thought of drive thru eating in New York. Imagine a Nathan's Famous drive thru in Times Square where the Marine recruiting kiosk used to be?

South of the Empire building near Gramercy Park lots of Indian Restaurants can be found and you will get away from the touristy stuff on Fifth Avenue.

Walk south on Broadway for 9 or so blocks to Madison Sq. Park and hit up the Shake Shack.

midtownlunch.com is your new best friend!

Thanks, and you are right about the walking, it's been about 25 years since I have been to NYC.

I checked out Midtownlunch, great suggestion. We like to buy local. We can't wait to be there, in a good way ;0).

We're in NYC for vacation this week (leaving Wednesday), and have noticed that most of the carts are Halal food (kebabs, gyros, chicken over rice, etc). There was however, a Jamaican truck at 6th and Broadway (think it was Broadway) that had some excellent jerk chicken.

how cool are you beth, midtownlunch is a very great site. My experience on this serious eats,,,,on a scale of one to ten, with people not being kind to each other, um well a 2. It was just a bummer tlo contact people , so thanks.

Uh, what exactly do you mean by "buy local?" You mean you're not going to eat at Applebee's and Olive Garden while you're in town?

I am not sure why people are being so mean on this thread and sort of want to stay out of the ridiculousness, but I do have some answers to the question. Shelleyanne, you should definitely go with Midtown Lunch's suggestions, particularly for street meat. I agree with the earlier commentator who said to walk down to Madison Square park for Shake Shack. Avoid all of the restaurants in the Empire State building, even the ones that aren't national chains as they are completely overpriced. Try walking east where you are more likely to find local places that will be more affordable. If you are feeling particularly into walking, go down to Union Square, where there are tons of interesting and delicious places to eat, or you could absolutely make a meal from the offerings at the green market.

The Daisy May's BBQ cart is out Mondays to Fridays from 11 AM to 3 PM...good BBQ and excellent chili. The cart is usually parked on 50th St. between 6th and 7th Avenues.
