Food and sites between SF & Portland-
Howdy fellow eaters,
I'm leaving on a 10 day roadtrip tomorrow up the West Coast's scenic 101 highway. I have plenty of places to stop between LA & SF but from SF to Portland I'm perplexed. Suggestions?

The town of Dunsmuir, off the 101, has a couple of great B&Bs, a nice restaurant, and an excellent little cafe/espresso bar. I can't remember the names, but it's a tiny town. That's where I used to stay when I was driving from home in central Cali back to college in Portland.

It's sort of touristy, but the food at Mo's Chowder in Newport, Oregon is pretty good and they always make you feel welcome.

You're going to love the Oregon coast...Whether stormy or sunny it's a great experience.
The Bay House near Lincoln City, Oregon is a great restaurant although a little expensive. Also in Lincoln City is the Blackfish Cafe which is nice.
Don't miss Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach.
Sounds like a great trip!

Bandon Oregon is lovely. We stayed at The Lighthouse B&B and loved it. There is a great Italian restaurant next door that we enjoyed, as well.
The drive is so lovely. We did it in eight days on our motorcycle and had a blast. Enjoy your trip!

We stumbled onto Huckabees while driving back from the Evergreen Air & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, towards home in Seattle. The lunch sandwiches were good enough that we ordered a humongous beef rib family dinner to take back to eat once we got home. And for lunch the next day. Great stuff.

Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay, OR has a spectacular view of the Pacific and pretty good seafood.
I also recommend staying at the Heceta Head lighthouse keeper's cottage B&B. They serve a 7 course breakfast.http://www.hecetalighthouse.com/bed_breakfast/

If you are stopping in Arcata right on the 101, you must go to:
Los Bagels - the best bagel on the West coast and and lots of yummy baked goods. Try the corn lime cookie!
Arcata Pizza & Deli - amazing pizza and hot/cold sandwiches served sizes appropriate for all the happy hippies around. Amazingly fresh food and great beer.
Larrupin's Cafe - a romantic, lovely restaurant north of Arcata in Trinidad, this is a local favorite with their locally praised Larrupin's sauce. Its incredible on a Los Bagel's bagel with cc, lox, tomato, and red onion. My mother sends bottles of the sauce across the country to me.
