Cocktail Suggestions

I am attending a college graduation party in a couple of weeks and the hosts asked me to select and then make three or four cocktails for the party.

I know I am making Ginger Rogers (gin, lime, mint, ginger syrup and ginger ale) since it is my favorite hot weather drink, but I could use a few ideas for others, as I tend to gravitate towards my own favorites.

I know there are some vodka drinkers so I need to do something vodka-based, and I'm thinking maybe something with bourbon as well.

Long Island Iced Tea. Something/everything for everyone.

since you already have mint, why not mojitos? great summer drink and easy to make in large pitcher to serve alot of pple. we made a variation--strawberry mojitos at a party and was a huge hit. Recipe below

I'd do a lemon drop martini, sugar rim. And pop some bubbly - graduation = celebration!

How about Vodka, Razzmatazz (or Chambourd) & limeade (I use Minute Maid Limeade or even a store brand frozen concentrate) for great Raspberry Lime Rickeys!

Basil Vodka Gimlets. - these are utterly fantastic!

Sangria maybe?

Old-fashioned whiskey sours (instead of something with bourbon) - they're surprisingly refreshing. Or mint juleps.

I would do a gin-based drink, a vodka-based drink (probably something fruity and crowdpleasing like dharmon suggested), and a tequila or rum based drink (mojitos are a good choice but I might not choose to do two minty drinks if you're only doing 3). Bourbon cocktails are less accessible for a large crowd and not that many people will order them.

I second sangria! White sangria, with lots of peaches. Mmmmmm.... Of course it would depend on how large the crowd is, though.

And mint juleps or mojitos are another great hot-weather choice.

I would go with mojitos too; you could even use the vodka instead of the rum (or even a lime-infused vodka).

I'm partial to caesars personally--but here's my favourite refreshing summer cocktail.

Fresh and Frosty
- Using a quality mortar and pestle: mash-up the mint-leaves, orange-slices, and sliced or canned peaches.
- Add 1 oz of Absolute Mandarin Vodka, 1 oz of Peach Schnapps, 1/2 lime wedge to your cocktail shaker
- Add your mortar mix to the shaker

Shake n strain for an awesome-ness! I garnish with more orange myself.

Full Monty Burbon martini
- 1 oz your favourite burbon
- 1 oz Southern Comfort
- 2 oz cranberry juice
lime squeeze.

I like to pour this one over ice.

Good luck and have fun CatBoy!

how many people are going to be there?

are you going to be the only BT?

if there's going to be lots of people -- i suggest making up pitchers of something that can be readily poured..... don't want to keep the graduates waiting. are they all 21?

Vodka yummy I would do a mean Bloody Mary. I also like Mojitos with vodka. Is there some sort of theme?

Lots of good suggestions. There will likely be 40 to 50, but I imagine a third will be sticking to beer, wine, or non-alcholic drinks , so the amount of actual drinkers should be within my scope (and I can easily enlist a helper or two if need be).

I haven't decided for certain, but based on the suggestions so far (and what I know of those attending), Mojitos, whiskey sours or Full Montys (I had a cat named Monty), and juliebugsmama's suggestion of a vodka raspberry cocktail are all sounding very good.

Thanks so much.
