Citi Field Catch of the Day, Beware!
I'm a huge Mets fan, and a huge fan of Citi Field, their new ballpark. I love the additions to the normal ballpark concessions, and I'm slowly trying the new offerings. Last night I tried the Lobster Roll and the Po'Boy Sandwich w/ Blackened Shrimp on Ciabatta Roll.
The lobster roll ($18) was insultingly bad. It was served on a TINY, crappy bun, and the fish was tasteless. In 3 awful bites, $18 has never been so worthless.
The po'boy ($12.75) is essentially a huge mustard sandwich after you eat the three/four pieces of shrimp in each half, but I would definitely recommend it! The ciabatta is perfect and the sandwich is quite large. The shrimp I did get were delicious.
I know SE NY did a story on the food at Citi, but I just wanted to offer two more quick reviews.

Agreed with the po'boy review! Just had it this past weekend and thankfully I like mustard because the amount nearly blew me away. Haven't had the lobster roll yet, so thanks for the info. Did you try the fish sandwich? Much more affordable and really good with a sprinkle of lemon.

I had the chowder there the other day, and I thought it was excellent. I agree about the Po'boy - it's mustard & ciabatta! Needs more shrimp!

what a surprise!!! ....as usual the general blogosphere public looks for the volume not the quality.. i hope you two bloggers do not go to esca where perfect fish is served RAW but in small portions too i am hoping chef pasternack keeps it going out there at citifield for a long time, it is about time real food is served at a new york city sports arena, that these hicks complain makes me want to go even more often, even if i am a yankee fan

@ batman, your judgment is way too harsh for these "hicks". Complaining that there is not enough filling in a sandwich is a criticism of a poorly made sandwich (bad filling to bread ratio), not a complaint about portion size. z911empire also presented perfectly legit reasons why the lobster roll was bad besides the size. No need for all the negativity.

Holy crap! $18 for a Lobster Roll? I've been out of the big cities way too long, I guess.
maxcriden at 6:52PM on 05/13/09
what do you expect from "citi" -- they're being bailed out, they can't afford to put anything on the roll..... what an insane rip-off.

david, i have tried the clam & corn chowder and it was delicious - great value too!
i had the lobster roll with my uncle, a successful chef for over 20 years, who was appalled at the poor quality lobster meat and the stale bun. for $18, he said, they should put some tail meat and really make an effort to have fresh fish.
batman, wow.

The clam and corn chowder is amazing. I have yet to see a lobster roll that's small. Here's a picture of one AFTER the eater picked out some of the meat:

Wow, I thought ballpark food was expensive here in Houston! I can say that Minute Maid has introduced garlic fries (which my hubby says are GREAT in SF), and sliders to their menu. 3 sliders, fries, and a pickle for $11 isn't bad at all - they make them as burgers and hot dogs.
My favorite at Minute Maid is still the chicken fajita wrap for $7. That, or, I like the visiting team recipe as well. For the Padres' series it was fish tacos, and for another (it was Chicago or LA - I've been to too many games already so I can't remember!) it was a foot long dog with cherry tomatoes and relish. YUM.
If only there was international ball here - I'd kill for some sushi! I could die a happy girl...

Mets fans can get amazing sushi from Daruma in the World's Fare market. It's over by the right field gate, or toward 2nd base from the "Taste of the City."
Personally, everything I've eaten from Catch of the Day was fantastic.
pooch, you don't seriously think CitiBank has anything to do with the food, do you?

@mmmmonica - i guess the vendors have to pay rent for having their concessions to citi.... i don't know. i just resent their name on old shea.

I got sick at Catch of the Day... and didn't like the offerings at all.

Did I go on an off day or did someone spit in my food or WHAT? The 'chowder' was thin and basically melted butter with a bit of broth. The fish sandwich was horrid...
